When the car is not running, something is consuming more electrical power than normal to run the battery down. Another problem could be that the battery is more than 5 or 6 years old and it is at the end of its useful life.

SOURCE: My alternator is new ,

If this is a reman alternator, take it back to the auto parts store and have them test it for function. This should still have a warranty so do not worry about that. Let me know what they say.

Losing power no fault showing up

Check your alternator and see if it is charging properly. With the ignition off, your battery should read approx 12 volts, with the engine running, approx. 14-15 volts. A real sign is if your internal dash lights are dimming while driving, same with the head lights. This does not normally trigger a fault code.

Battery runs down with can parked

I'm not certain I understand the problem, but it sounds as though the battery is not charging properly. Check it yourself, or have the charging system and battery checked. With the engine running the battery voltage should read about 14 volts. If it is much lower, the charging system is not working. If the battery goes down with the car just sitting, there is something drawing more current than it should. Easy things to check are for a glovebox light, overhead light, trunk light or underhood light that does not turn off. Normal draw with everything off, after sitting a few minutes, should be less than 100 milliamps. I hope this is helpful.

New batterey an new alternator still dies when i unhook pos cable

Where both rebuilt alternators any good
& retested at store?

Your explaining a constant voltage drop,
once the battery is hooked up.

How about the ignition switch?
Does that have anything to do with
the regulator control in alternator?

You haven't said you have 14 plus volts
with motor running,so basically you don't
have an alternator charging your new battery
& the ignition currant, even without the lights on,
is running down the battery

All I said is what you already know

I'm is missing something?

Don't unhook any battery cables with
the motor running, were not living in the 1960's

Those type tests will ruin many things on newer
vehicles, than yours, loose that practice & also avoid
jump starting any vehicle from 1996 on

Battery keeps running down on 96 cadillac elderado

if battery keeps running down. check the voltage across the batery posts while car is off.should be around 12.5 to13 volts. then with tester hooked up to battery, start the car. if alternator is ok, it while read about 14 volts give or take a few volts. if the gharging is low its a bad alternator or the drive belt.

A 76, huh, let's see, I don't know if that had the regulator in there or not. It sounds like the alt died, but maybe not. It won't run without the alt. And will only last about 20 mins on a full battery. I would take the alt off and get it back to the store to have it checked. That would be the quickest way to tell, just because it is new doesn't mean it is good. Don't keep on killing the battery, it can only handle so many drains. Hope this helps.

The engine will not start. When turning the key to start the engine all the light dim or go out and the starter solenoid does not even engage. Battery is new and the starter is new both checked out good.

how is the alternator and belt. running it should put out at least 14 to 14.3. when off, battery should read at least 13.0 volts. if not 14 volts running, then it is the alternator or the belt is bad.

Something keeps draining my new battery.......in less than 24hrs....don't see any lights left on or tail lights on......

Are you leaving something plugged into the Cigarette lighter by chance as that will drain it even if nothing's charging.

You may have a faulty ground somewhere, but that will be really hard to trace as you would have to test each wire...
