So in the meantime before I get to that, is there any harm in driving it. It's a standard and I rarely look at the tach anyways.

New cars use stepping motors to run meters today from the computer. You will need to remove the dash an replace the motor or the complete panel. It depends on what you want to do. Its not hard it just takes time. You will need a Haynes or Chiltons manual on how to remove panel, different in every car.

No its just a stepper motor, the only one I would worry about is the speed indicator. If speed goes out you can use your GPS as I did until I could fix it. The part is just a small square motor about the size of a quarter, maybe bigger or smaller. It is controlled by a signal from your cars computer. The motor is stuck or wore out. When you do get it opened replace the other ones while you are at it if you can solder. Some people just change out the whole dash, others like me replace parts, because I like working on things. It is not a serious problem an many people never fix them. Just keep an eye on your other gauges watching for failure. You dont want an important one going bad to not know oil pressure, temp, etc.

My dodge ram 1500 big horn tachometer is stuck at 0. How do I fix it?

The cable running to the back of the tach is probably broke. The only way to fix it is to take the dash apart so that you can get to the tach. unhook the cable, gently push it through the firewall as far as you can, then pop the hood, find your tach cable and gently pull it the rest of the way through the firewall, disconnect it from the motor and put on a new cable, reversing everything you just did.

My 1997 nissan pathfinder tachometer goes to max revolutions indications when I start the engine. However, the engine is running under normal revolutions. What may be the problem

It sounds like, assuming your tachometer runs off the alternator or coil, your tach is merely going on the fritz. However, if it goes through the computer, your computer may be acting a little screwy, and might warrant being OBD tested.

My tachometer stopped working In my 73 vette I checked the cable from my distributor to my tach and it seem to be fine maybe my tach is stuck because with the car started the cable feels Like there's...

It you want to drive it make sure you disconnect the cable at one end so it won't turn the tach. If the tach is stuck leaving it together runs a good chance of breaking something and cables are cheaper than tachs. Sometimes the ends of those cables separate, the round cable is pressed into a square pattern, but time and mileage can make them separate. Your symptoms would suggest this is likely what has happened. A new cable is your best bet. Hope this helps.

75vette tack stuck at max rpm, both with engine on

Chances are its not the Tach. Look over the wiring to the tach. Its it brittle about to crust off? Is it shorted to ground? Now that would pin it. Check its connections off the coil. Engine side of this item is usually where you'll find the problem. This is nothing new with a vette definately not serious. Remember the tach responds to electrical signal it gets. Before you do the surgery on the gauge itself make sure nothing is shorting this out.

Tachometer stopped working completely but all other gauges are fine. Tachometer would work off and on for a few days before completely not working. "Check engine light" stays on. All fuses are fine. This...

It's very UNLIKELY the jumpstart had anything to do with it, unless you accidentally connected the battery in 'reverse polarity', which causes the electrical system voltages to 'DROP' instantaneously to near zero volts and create 'current spiking' in all active circuits. Nevertheless, the microcomp in the instrument cluster which drives the TACH has protective curcuits. The only solutions are to eliminate any problems in the wiring between the ECM/PCM and the instrument cluster, and bench test the tach to determine if it's working properly. Process of elimination - if wiring is ok and the Tach is ok, then the problem is in the ECM/PCM.

This is a case of pure coincidence. It just went bad at the same time you made the repair. Just a fluke,no worries.

please rate highly if this helps.

Check fuse #37, 10 amp yellow in fuse panel on dash.

The camshaft sensor in the distributor sends the tach signal to the instrument cluster. wire is BU = Blue?

Tachometer not working on 1999 mercury villager

his problem is caused by the failure of the circuit board that operates the tach needle, you will have to remove the instrument panel then the tach from the panel and send it out for repair to an authorized Nissan electronics repair center, contact your local dealer for the name and number.
