Find bad pulley, see what it is connected to and you have your answer. If you don't know what part you are looking at, make a chart showing each pulley and belt route and take to dealer to identify part.

I'm wondering why your going through tensioner pulleys so fast. Sounds like you may have the belts too tight. Unfortuantely I believe that pulley is actually pressed on and will break if you try to remove it but you might be able to find one at a junk yard. As far as the bushing being cracked, if it is a bushing it is common for them th appear cracked over time but you should replace worn parts.

The pulley itself might have bad bearings going bad. They is a special stethscope that is used to listen to different parts of the engine while its running. you have to touch it to the suspect pulley and you will hear a different sound from the other pulleys. If your pretty mechanically inclined you can do it. If not a mechanic can diagnosis it for you.

Is there a diagram that could show me how to bypass my ac comp pulley using a smaller belt instead of buying a bypass pulley

Only a few cars out there that you can just slap on a smaller belt. If it calls for the compressor or pulley, then you'll need to get one or the other. You can check. Take a string and run it to the pulleys that the smaller belt would go. See if it is going to hit a bracket.

Hi I need to replace the serpentine belt on Hyundai tucson (2004) the problem is the air con pulls seems to have siezed, can I get a smaller belt as I don't really need air con in scotland. Cheers

my autodata belt book shows 18 hyundai belt set ups 1992 to2012 and only one that runs a special belt for the ac
for all the rest the ac pulley is required as the belt runs around it to drive power steering, alternator , water pump
test the ac pulley by removing the belt( after drawing a diagram of how it runs ) and trying to spin the pulley
if it is as you say have a mobile mechanic/ ac mechanic come and remove the pulley and replace the bearing ( about 1 1/2 hour and $20.00 for the bearing
if the pulley spins then disconnect the wire to the compressor so that the clutch is not engaged for the compressor

A loose idler pulley threw the surpentine belt off - feels like bearings inside the pulley are shot.

will try to help. if the pulley has wobble,it's bad and in need of replacement. not a hard repair to preform. turn the bolt on the idler pulley thats bad counter clockwise, remove the bolt and pulley. replace with new pulley. you'll need to follow the belt routing on the hood of your car[a small decal that shows how to replace your serpentine belt] to replace the belt when you've replaced that pulley. if you do not have a diagram of your belt routing, make sure to ask where ever you purchase the idler pulley from. if not then post your question here and we'll be happy to help! i also suggest that while you're there replacing that pulley, you check all the other pulleys for wobble, just in case theres another problem you don't yet see. hope this helps and if you need further assistance please don't hesitate to post your question!thank you for choosing fixya.com

Serpentine Belt Replacement

There is a diagram near the radiator telling you how it goes unless covered in filth or worn off. Look up the repair manual and it will show a diagram. Just need to loosen the belt tensioner pulley to do it and add tension to the same pulley when done. It's the pulley not attached to steering, a/c or motor all by itself. You might want to get someone to help doing it if 1st time but not hard, just put pressure on pulley when done and bolt tight.

Where can i find a diagram and locate the water pump in my 95 cougar so i can replace it myself?

If you open the hood and look around the frame of the engine compartment, or on the under side of the hood, there should be a diagram available that shows the way the belts are run on your cougar. It will show you the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, crank pulley, tensioner, A/C and any extra pulleys.

Usually it is located somewhere above the crank pulley a bit to the left or right.

Serpantine belt broke

there is usally a diagram on either the hood or the radiator core support. now to loosen something there is a idler pulley with a 3/8" drive end in the center of it that will allow you to move the pulley against the tensioner to put the belt on
