Question about 2005 Ford F-150

1 Answer

Cutting out when you step on gas pedal hard. Rough idling.

When driving this truck this a.m. I was only able to drive about 40 mph. If I drove any harder on fuel pedal it would cut out. After driving it about 25 miles like that I though what the hell I would just step on pedal and see what happens. It took off like nothing happened. It still has a bit of hesitation or miss though. Ideas??

hello , You will find that the petrol pump in the tank is completely clogged up . This is due to the addition of alcohol = now 10% of the fuel is alcohol . It destroys everything .

If you are lucky you can drop the tank and clean it otherwise you will have to renew it .

Check the mass air flow sensor connection and clean the thin wires inside with a sensor cleaner and see if that helps. It usally does.

Check to see if there's a vacuum leak at the base gasket. Let it idle and spray a little carburetor cleaner around the base. If the idle goes up, the spray is sealing the leak momentarily. If it's getting too much air, it's the same as not getting enough fuel.

  • Sounds like a spark issue to me to. Sounds like a lean miss to me which the coil packs being changed will fix.
  • When the EGR opens and the fuel is cut back then hit the gas again the coils need a higher voltage to fire off. A good coil pack could respond properly. A bad coil pack would produce a low output NS bucking would be the result.
  • I know you said you just replaced the plugs but you may want to check them again and make sure you gaped them after purchasing them. (unless you are using a split fire plug) Make sure your plugs are high quality plugs.
  • Did you change your wires too?

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYA.

Drive cycle reset

Drive Cycle resets to reset the OBDII testing phases are very specialized to the year, model and engine of your car. So I can only speak generally. Start the car from fully cold and let it idle for about 15 minutes, then put the car into gear and drive it for about 5 minutes at 35 mph, then get on a highway and drive at about 60 mph for 15 minutes, come off the highway and drive around 40 mph for 3 minutes, come to a complete stop (like a stop sign) wait 30 seconds, drive off again up to 40 mph for 4 minutes - and repeat the last 2 steps (going up to 40 mph) about 3-5 times. Then repeat the last two steps going up to only 25 mph. Then come to a complete stop in your driveway and let the car idle for 10 minutes with the a/c on . After this is done, hook up a code scanner and see if it reset the modes to "ready".

Sounds like a bad spark plug, spark plug wire. Probably the spark plug wire. They usually act that way when load is applied. It may misfire under light load and not at idle. Try plugs and wires.

2001 volvo s80 rough ideal below 40 mph especially when the ac is on. Also if i press the throttle while in park or in drive at low speed the ideal gets rough (pulsates and often stalls).

SOUND IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE NOT WORKING PROPERLY.IT SHOULD STEP UP IDLING WHEN YOU TURN ON THE AC TO KEEP ENGINE FROM STALLING OUT.

Car has in a fuel injected 1500 cc engine ,hard to start and uneven idle usually jump from 1500 to 3000 rpms when it should be idling

You probably have a bad Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). If it does not control the idle correctly , you can find yourself driving 50 MPH with out touching the gas pedal. The IACV is located on the throttle control valve and is typically held on by two or three small screws. The price for an IACV can run from $25 to $500. I purchased a throttle body for $40 , removed the IACV, and saved $400.
