Engine has hesitation/miss without a check engine light coming on upon acceleration

there are many things that could cause that from bad gas to weak fuel pump or dirty inline filter or timing chain could be weak or dirty intake or bad catalitic converter or no converter or even a vaccum line off or cracked or even a bad EGR valve so you see theres alot of things that cause poor exceleration or idle. Hope this was some what helpfull.

The check engine light has come on twice but each time we go to get it checked it turns off again before we get thier. Both times the car had like a shutter or hesitation to excelerate after the light came...

the light does not have to be on. there should be a "freeze frame" of the problem when light was on. Any auto shop should be able to check it for you.

Engine hesitates upon exceleration

Does it hesitate when climbing a hill, too? Might be a fuel pump or fuel pump filter. Suspect these components when an engine stalls or hesitates when more gasoline is required.

Ets is the warning light for the traction control. It must have malfunctioned. It operates along with the ABS. You will need a code read from the control unit to determine what the problem is. Usually a wheel speed sensor. If you are up to it you could disconnect each wheel sensor and read the ohms across the terminals. All should have similar readings. If one is wildly different, replace it. There is a slight change you may still have to get the light extinguished by a dealer though.
