2002 renault clio semi automatic gearbox

Hi I have a Sept 2002 semi-auto renault clio, my car starts but will not allow me to move out of neutral, the gearbox warning light is on, RAC came and stated it has to go to a 'Gearbox Specialist' but as its a semi-auto its a rare care with potentially high repair costs at greater value than the car could be worth. Ive been told a Renault dealer will defiantely fix the car but ive no idea of costs. anyone else had the same problem ?

remove the bulb then it cant bother you ,if it drives alright leave well alone or it will cost you a new ECU unit so just ignore it or a bit of black tape over bulb or remove the bulb
check transmission level with drive wheels chocked up ,handbrake on and engine running with reverse selected.and thats as much as you can do as this gearbox in common with all modern cars is all electric, and its a renault which means its encrypted software so no weekend mechanic tune up gizmo from the states will evan contemplate trying to read this properly ,just a load of mumbo jumbo .trust me its a renault , i know what these gizmo sellers promise about their wonder readers and such but on modern cars from 2007 they are useless as now all modern cars are encrypted and your famous renault started it.This is so that all work on a brand of cars can only be undertaken by the dealer and general garages can go and hang their overhauls up for good or turn their garages into car washes or a big mac outlet

SOURCE: Gearbox fault of Jaguar S Type

unfortunately when that code, and that gear box fault light comes on, its pretty much game over for the transmission. It only a matter of time before performance of the transmission gets worse and worse. BUT that transmission is VERY easy to replace, i would check out a few trustworthy independent shops to give you a better price! I am usually a die-hard dealership, having been working at this jaguar land rover dealership for the last 2 years, but you are pretty much for sure going to be a cheaper price on the labor and like i said it is a pretty easy task.

My only precaution MAKE SURE IF YOU GETTING A USED TRANSMISSION THAT YOU GET SOME TYPE OF WARRANTY ON IT. Too many times have I seen customers loose thousands of dollars paying someone to put a used engine or transmission and have it fail almost right away.

SOURCE: A 'check gearbox' warning light has come on the

the bad news 4 u. this gearbox in your car is like made by mickey mouse.
1st before spending lots of money.
find a transmission place and ask them to recalibrate the gear box as you think its got program confused.
this will make gearbox people think you know about the gearbox, they then wont be able to this you and just do this plus charge for more.
if no joy ask them to check gearbox oil, if dirty its torn a clutch, expensive.
i know alot of these just need a reprogram, have had them done for nothing but other times about £40 it takes minutes to do, u get billed an hour.

Hi,

You'll need to provide us with the following information:

- Make of vehicle
- Year of vehicle
- Engine size (e.g. 2.0L, 3.5L etc)

I suspect the low trans fluid is contributing, but we need above vehicle details to see if we can carry out some further diagnostics....

I have put a new gearbox, clutch and driveshaft in my clio sport 2.0 16v but when i try to go to 5th gear it pops back out

hi it may be something as simple as a slight ajustment of the gear linkage. be sure all the moving parts on the linkage are not worn. failing this it is highly possible it is a bearing inside the gearbox. we have a manual laguna and an automatic espace and i'v heard that a good secondhand renault gearbax is as rare as hens teeth.

Renault clio problem

First check to see if the driveshafts are turning, they are the things that stick out either side of the gearbox. start engine put car in gear. and let the clutch up, if you have no drive, open the bonnet and see if the gearbox end of the driveshaft or the wheel end of the driveshaft is moving. if one or the other is (remember to look both sides of the gearbox 2 driveshafts) you have a driveshaft or hub fault. If all is well and nothing is loose or moving the problem is either clutch or internal to the gearbox. this will require removale of the gearbox. approx 5 hours labour remove and refit plus parts required on inspection.
