I had a problem with both the speedometer and odometer in a Lincoln. It may also have an effect on the engine operation. My speedometer showed 45mph standing still and miles were rolling up on the odometer.

For me, it was a bad Alternator. The alternator was shorting out through the case. You should have your alternator checked and if you find out it is good, then the problem is something that is charging the car body.

You are getting a stray current that is messing up your dash and engine controls. You may have a power wire which rubbed through its insulation.

Very common problem is about a dime size hole wearing in the rubber elbow on the PCV valve located on the driver side rear of the intake manifold.

Do you have a "Check Engine" light?

Check the coils in each cylinder. At 140k the valve cover gaskets tend to break and oil will fill the coils causing misfires and stalling.

1993 S-10 Blazer has erratic idle and stalls

Check the tps "trottle positioning sensor, on mine the idle would not stay steady, and shift so hard that it would sound like it was going to break something. it is located on the drivers side of the throttle body with a push in electrical connector.

93 chevrolet truck bogging down on acceleration

Check intake gaskets. Pour warm soapy water on the gasket when it's running. If it bubbles like crazy, you have a leak. 2. Check timing. Shoot a timing light at the crank mark. If it jumps around a lot, your chain has jumped. #3. check cam. Remove valve covers, run the engine, and see if they are all raisng the valves the same. Put a piece of cardboard along the bottom, and fold it around a little, so it forms kind of a " half valve cover". That way you won't lose oil everywhere, and make a mess, or a fire.

What would be the best choice for replacing the throttle position sensor on my 1993 lincoln mark viii?

I replaced the TPS on a 93 and a 94 with one from Auto Zone and both worked perfectly. It is always best while you have the throttle body off to go ahead and change your "IAC"Idle Air Control Valve and Auto Zone also has them. They run around $50 to $55 but if it has never been changed, you will be changing it, if you keep the car. The IAC can stick and will stick with time and either cause a very low idle but normally a high idle. It is very hard to change on the 93 - 96 models. Two 8mm bolts holds it in. Removing the hood helps out more than you would ever realize. The TPS helps out a lot also with idle issues and also some shift changes. Pull out your MAF and buy some MAF cleaner and clean the little wire inside. You would be amazed at what a difference that little dirty wire will make once it's cleaned. Put in a new air filter and you'll be set.

1990 Ford Probe 2.2 automatic stalls in forward, reverse OK

Sounds like a bad IAC (idle air control valve/sensor) that controls your idle when going from throttle to idle. If bad your idle will act crazy and can cause stalls easily. Pretty sure that's it.

'93 Aerostar-stalls while driving/scary-stalls in 'drive' at stops

Wow!!! Now that's a headfull of problems....
This could be a great many things...
Check these before you sell. I have a '93 Aerostar and can't live without it.
1. Check idle speed
2. Fuel filter may be clogged or water in the fuel system.
3. Choke improperly adjusted or sticking.
4. Distributor components damp or damaged.
5. Faulty emissions components.
6. Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs/ Also check wires.
7. Vacuum leak at the carburetor/fuel injection unit or vacuum hoses.
8. On 1986 models, stalling during idle or deceleration may be caused by sludge in the throttlebody. (2.3 litre engine)
9. On 1986 & 1987 models with a 2.3 litre engine, hesitation or stalling during acceleration may be caused by carbon build-up on the intake valves.....I hope this helps!! Adios
