How does the diesel fuel system work -does it have a lift pump

The function of diesel fuel system is to deliver the diesel fuel to the engine clean of of purities at the right pressure. In most generating unit diesel engines, the fuel system loop consists of the following major parts:
1. Day Fuel Tank
2. Fuel Water Separator
3. Fuel Strainer
4. Fuel Supply Pump
5. Fuel Filter
6. Fuel Injection Pump
7. Injectors
8. Return line to the day tank
Hope it can help you.

Diesel engine. In the morning when the vehicle had been standing for a day, when cranking the engine it will start smooth for a second and then splutters / running rough and not respond to the acceler

2 things cause these type of problem both are related to air is getting into injection system #1 loose or pin holes in hoses from fuel tank to injection pump #2 fuel shut off solenoid is fully seating allow drain back. back car up driveway or place rear tires on some ramps with a near full tank this should keep fuel in injection system see if it starts and runs better this way if so then test for these problems

When i put a positiefwire link to the injector pump then she start and i can stop the runing eng by the igiotion

With a volt meter test the wire voltage at injection pump connected is should be at less 10.8 volts cranking and test continuity of fuel shut off solenoid about 50 ohms. (guessing) higher number would mean that is can not create enough magnetic power to pull the solenoid on. but low voltage creates the same affect. voltage drop from key to pump is your problem.

I havea ingersol rand lull vr90b with a perkins diesel engine i took the starter off to have it worked on acted like the sylenoid was bad it would kick in two or three times before it would crank but...

The stop solenoid will only work when you have power applied. That way when you switch of the engine the solenoid pushes forward and shuts off the fuel. In short any power failure switches off the diesel. So wire it so wih power it is sucked in

if engine wont turn over and its a diesel engine could have weak batteries diesel engine needs lots of cranking amps to over come cylinders high compression.

Got and old army 2.5 ton am gen 1972 model truck that lost power and died we can run a hot wire to diesel pump and short it across on start it will run it has none of the ectrical gages on the dish that...

Just find, with a test light, which wire is hot with the switch on, and that's the one to connect to the solenoid on the fuel pump. When switch is turned off, engine will shut down. Now you just need to put power to the gages when switch is on using the same idea.

I was having problems with my starter on a 1993 chevy suburban k1500 4x4. replaced starter, still wouldn't start. replaced battery, fuel pump, sending unit and fuel pump relay. fuel pump fuse is good. ...

Confused as to why you are replacing things that crank the engine over, like the starter, and things that are just for fuel, like the pump?

Can't tell if it is cranking over or just not firing?

But if it is not cranking, then consider the ignition switch, neutral safety switch, engine ground strap, and battery terminals.

If you think it is not getting fuel, then try some starting fluid, to make sure it does spark at least.

If it does have spark and cranks, then you should put a gauge on the fuel rail. If there is no pressure when you try to start, then check voltage at the pump with a test light.
If none, then follow back to relay.
If none there, then try jumping at the relay, just for testing.
If that works, then it could be safety cutout system.
Some vehicles use an inertial switch, some use oil pressure switch, some use alternator feedback.

Fuel Cut Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
An inoperative shutdown solenoid can cause a no-start condition. Disconnect solenoid harness connector and with ignition switch in the "ON"
position momentarily touch solenoid harness connector to solenoid connector. If a "click" sound is heard, the solenoid circuit is operating
properly. If "click" is not heard, the system should be diagnosed as follows:
1. With test lamp connected to ground and the ignition switch in the "ON" position, backprobe the shutdown harness connector. If the test lamp
does not light check for open circuit form the ignition switch to the solenoid.
2. If the test lamp lights, check the ground circuit between solenoid stud and injection pump cover to see if connectors are clean and tight. If the
connections are not clean and tight repair and retest.
3. If the ground circuit is "OK", remove the injection pump cover. Connect a jumper wire between solenoid ground connector and ground. With
the ignition switch in the "ON" position, momentarily touch shutdown solenoid harness connector to shutdown solenoid terminal. If solenoid
operates, check for internal injection pump problem.
4. If the solenoid will not operate, replace the shutdown solenoid.
Fuel Cut Solenoid: Service and Repair
1. Remove pump cover.
2. Terminal contact nuts.
3. Solenoid.
1. Solenoid in the pump cover.
- On the shutdown solenoid, make sure that the linkage is free.
- On the cold advance solenoid, make sure that the plunger is centered so that it will contact the check ball in the fitting.
2. Insulating washers on the terminal studs.
3. Terminal nuts and tighten to 1 Nm (9 in lbs).
4. Pump cover.
5. Inspect solenoid operation prior to installing the pump cover. Use a 12 volt DC power source.

(TOYOTA SURF 1990 TURBO DIESEL) No diesel coming out of fuel pump

If it has glow plugs or an intake heater you will need to disable the circuit. Then you can use a small amount of ether to spray into the air cleaner.!!! If you spray too much and/or Dont disable the circuits you can damage the motor!!! When you spray the ether, if the engine starts and stalls then its not getting fuel. This could be related to the fuel pump, injection pump, the fuel system loosing its prime(fuel line leak), fuel shut-off valve or solenoid. If it doesn't start then it could be related to your timing, valves or maybe compression.
