Lift the car on lift end push/pull the wheel vertical. if find excessive play is your wheel bearing. run you hand on the tire back and for if you tire have bumps (every other thread) rotate tire across like X back to for.If the noise move to the front is the tire. wheel bearing is the first to be check. lift the car on the lift and push/pull the wheels in and out. if excessive play replace the bearings.

Hand brake rattle

Loose rear brake caliper. Have it checked soon as bolt could be loose but likely the pads are being pushed back too far or the rattle shims have rusted away.

Knikking sound when driving on a bad road at the back sound like shock but apparently nothing wrong with shock

Possibly a loose exhaust hanger that vibrates when traveling over a bumpy road or the Catalytic Converter Shield. The shield commonly will partially break loose and vibrate. Most exhaust shops will try to sell you a new Cat. Converter. If it's the shield, you can either try to "tack" it back up or take it off yourself.

96 Golf 2.0GTI 8v knocking noise from rear when accelerating

its probably your bump stops. the vw ones are very soft. i bought ford escort (the shape after the xr3) ones and cut them a little down to fit. i think the noise is either your shock touching or the sound of the tire scraping the body of the car. hope this helps.
