Question about Hummer Cars & Trucks
2006 H2 transmition problem. first, second, third and OD work as long as I shift manually. If I put it in Drive from a stop it will not move. If on the highway I pull a hill and it shifts by itself into 4th it will just rev the engine until it hits the shut off.
My H2 is currently in the shop for a very similar thing. It would not shift correctly and it seem to be stuck in 4WL. This first time this happened it was a sensor. With labor (not at dealer) this cost us about 500. This time it turns out to be a problem with the transfer case. At first we thought it was a sensor but it turned out that there is a "fork" in the transfer case that had broken. To fix we are hunting a used transfer case which runs about 800-1000 bucks. New from the dealer runs about 2200.

Ratio codes generally indicate a pressure loss & slipping which the computer reads as a gear ratio problem. Likely you need a rebuild.

You don't have torque converter shudder. You don't even mention that in your original post! You def had a solenoid issue. My 94 STS did the same thing. I only had reverse, 1st and 2nd gear. Wouldn't shift outa 2nd period. It was a $200 solenoid repair. Car had a 160K on it when that happened. I have almost 170k on it now. Shifts and works fine. you don't need the tranny replaces ad josavv63 indicates.

sounds like the shifter linkage has worn and not working properly need to lift in air and inspect the linkage

On my Honda Pilot I experienced the same problem having difficulty changing the gear shifter from park to drive. I drove it to my Honda dealer and the technician explained that the problem was a brake sensor was worn and needed to be replaced. This is because the brakes must be engaged before shifting from park into drive and that the sensor gets worn over time. As I remember, the sensor and labor to install was somewhere between $25 to $50 to replace. It now works like a charm.
