How to connect a new era alternator voltage regulator wiring diagram.Or a schematic diagram of the charging system.


knowing the color codes can be a great help..usually in 12v reg system,from the regulator there are 6 white wire having a stripe codes,blue means neutral,green means field,black means ground to body,white means hot wired to +12v,yellow means to bat charging indicator going to instrument panel and finally red means to ignition....and always secure the regulators case to ground.

Battery not charging. had charging system tested. all okay except alternator. removed alternator and had tested. replaced alternator. system still not charging.


Check the connections and the fusible link. A fusible link is an inline fuse in the wiring. You will need a multimeter to test and troubleshoot. Check that when the ignition is on, that you are getting 12 volts to the lead to the alternator. The ignition switch controls turning on the charging system.

The "Charging Sytem" includes the battery, the alternator, the voltage regulator and all related connecting wires and cables. If the charging system was tested and it tested "good" then all of these components are working properly.
If your charging system is good and you continue to have a dead battery, then you probably have an "Ignition-Off draw". This means that something is staying on after the ignition is shut off. This could be interior lamps not shutting off due to a bad door switch, or the headlamps being left on, or some other electrical component in the vehicle that is malfunctioning. If this is the case, then you need to have your vehicle checked by a competent Service Technician who, using the proper equipment and techniques, can locate and repair the source of the problem.

Battery is dead everyday


You either have a bad battery or a bad alternator. Most alternator shops and Advance auto parts store will check both for free. It is possible for an alternator to charge the battery while the car is running but kill it when it is switched off because of a bad diode in the alternator.

This light means that most likely your alternator has stopped functioning, and your battery is no longer being charged. Typically this means that your alternator needs to be replaced.

Charging system fault


Yup, that won't be enough as it is normal battery voltage. You need 13.8 to 14.8 or so. Pull the alternator and get it bench tested. Alternators have diodes inside (one way valve for electricity, that converts alternating current to direct current, which your car is). and these diodes fail and leak. There is a set that turns on the regulator that fail..

All will have the same result. rebuild the alternator.

If it bench tests okay, be sure to guarantee good ground cuicuit.

STARTING YOUR DIAGNOSIS
What happens when you attempt to start the engine? If nothing happens when you turn the key,"http://www.aa1car.com/library/2003/us20310.htm"to determine its state of charge. Many starters won't do a thing unless there is at least 10 volts available from the battery. A low battery does not necessarily mean the battery is the problem, though. The battery may have been run down by prolonged cranking while trying to start the engine. Or, the battery's low state of charge may be the result of a charging system problem. Either way, the battery needs to be recharged and tested.
If the battery is low, the next logical step might be to try starting the engine with another battery or a charger. If the engine cranks normally and roars to life, you can assume the problem was a dead battery, or a charging problem that allowed the battery to run down. If the battery accepts a charge and tests okay, checking the output of the charging system should help you identify any problems there.
A "http://www.aa1car.com/library/2002/cm10220.htm" that is working properly should produce a charging voltage of somewhere around 14 volts at idle with the lights and accessories off. When the engine is first started, the charging voltage should rise quickly to about two volts above base battery voltage, then taper off, leveling out at the specified voltage. The exact charging voltage will vary according to the battery's state of charge, the load on the electrical system, and temperature. The lower the temperature, the higher the charging voltage. The higher the temperature, the lower the charging voltage. The charging range for a typical alternator might be 13.9 to 14.4 volts at 80 degrees F, but increase to 14.9 to 15.8 volts at subzero temperatures.
If the charging system is not putting out the required voltage, is it the alternator or the regulator? Full fielding the alternator to bypass the regulator should tell you if it is working correctly. Or, take the alternator to a parts store and have it bench tested. If the charging voltage goes up when the regulator is bypassed, the problem is the regulator (or the engine computer in the case of computer-regulated systems). If there is no change in output voltage, the alternator is the culprit.
Many times one or more diodes in the alternator rectifier assembly will have failed, causing a drop in the unit's output. The alternator will still produce current, but not enough to keep the battery fully charged. This type of failure will show up on an oscilloscope as one or more missing humps in the alternator waveform. Most charging system analyzers can detect this type of problem.

Battery Discharge


The alternator is okay but is short circuiting on the battery.

trouble shoot by using a friend's battery and you will experience the same thing.

This simply means the alternator has dropped its charging power.

Replace the alternator.

have the alternator checked by itself . i know you had the system checked out . when you have the light on that means open circuit . also run a code testor for the computer of the vechile.
