Question about Hyundai Motor 2004 Sonata

1 Answer

Had a Brake light switch removed and replaced and since then the car does not want to accelerate and there is smoke coming out of the wheels. What could cause this?

We called the service department that replaced switch. They said it must just be a coincidence. Took the car to another repair center and they told us all our brakes, rotors and calipers were bad and needed replacing. We got them fixed and when we started driving the car home the car started smoking again. Called the repair shop they checked it over and said the master cylinder was bad. They repaired that and we picked up car. Then we drove car for about 20 minutes and smoke started coming out of the wheel area again. Repair shop was puzzled. I reminded them that we recently had the brake light switch removed and replaced. They towed car in again and checked the brake light switch. It was installed backwards. They claimed that once they switched over the switch it was working fine. The repair shop claims that due to the brake light switch being installed backward it caused continuous activation of the braking hydraulic system, resulting in continuous application of the brake components. This caused extreme high heat levels to all front and rear braking components. The parts melted and failed under the stress. both front wheel bearings, the master cylinder, the front left caliper, and right caliper, pads, and front brake rotor were all replaced. Who is lying to us??????

Wow, that sounds like a really scary and annoying situation. If my car keeps repeatedly having smoke billow out of it while I was driving I would get freaked out. I am no expert but it does seem like the problem has to do with your brakes. Hopefully, a mechanic can figure out what is wrong with your car. http://www.autopronewarkoh.com/

SOURCE: Right rear brake squeals during light braking.

Did you put after market pads on or Hyundai pads, there is a differance with the newer cars, dealer pads are made for that car, I know there expensive, but they are better.

Pt cruiser inside brake light on. Something gets hot on drivers side wheel have seen smoke smells like something electral

Check the brake fluid level. If the level is low the brake light will come on. If the brake fluid is low enough to turn on the light it may be a good time to check the brakes. If you see smoke from the column than pull the covers and check for burnt wires. Most likely there is a pin burning in one of the connectors for the multifunction switch or ignition switch.

When I start the acceleration, the brake light comes on for just a few seconds and goes out. I checked the fluid levels.

If there is ABS on the car it is the ABS detecting the difference inthe wheel RPM that is triggering off the brake light.
so not to worry as this happens and specially if your brake fluids are full.
The other reason is the momentum is setting off the brake fluid sensor to switch on .

The emergency brake light sometimes goes on when accelerating and when going up hills.

You just need to add some brake fluid to the reservoir. The float switch turns on the light when the car is not leveled because the fluid is low.

Hope this helps,

Pedal almost goes to floor, see steam or smoke from front wheels

Definitely sounds like you have a brake fluid leak. It shouldn't be driven anymore until the problem is repaired. The red brake light comes on when the fluid is low. If your in a rusty climate one of the brake lines has probably rusted out. When it dries up try following the lines from the master to each wheel. However since you said you saw smoke when braking i'd bet the leak is near a wheel and fluid hit the rotor or caliper which caused the smoke. In either case, sounds like something has to be replaced / repaired. Good luck.

Emergency Brake Light when I Accelerate 1996 Saturn SL (manual)

Time to check it out, the light is used to indicate either the brake handle is actuated or you are loosing fluids in the brake system. Since Brake fuild is not consumed then you might have a leak if the fluid is low or a worn part that is bypassing. Either way have a competent brake technician check your system, with the wonderful life of your vehicle so far it could just be worn parts and in need of replacement. Two quarts a week of oil it is goind somewhere, and that is not a good thing. Good Luck

Problem with my cruise control and ABS light on 03 Explorer

Anti-Lock Control —Vehicles Built After 03/2002 The 3-channel anti-lock brake system consists of the following components:
  • front wheel speed sensors
  • front wheel speed sensor rings
  • hydraulic control unit (HCU)
  • Anti-lock brake control module (ECU)
  • rear wheel speed sensor
  • rear wheel speed sensor rings
  • yellow anti-lock brake warning indicator
The 4-channel anti-lock brake system with traction control and stability assist system consists of the following components:
  • active brake booster with integral solenoid
  • brake booster release switch
  • front wheel speed sensors
  • front wheel speed sensor rings
  • hydraulic control unit (HCU)
  • stability assist module (ECU)
  • stability assist event indicator
  • lateral accelerometer
  • longitudinal accelerometer (4x4)
  • rear wheel speed sensors
  • rear wheel speed sensor rings
  • steering wheel position sensor
  • yaw rate sensor
  • yellow anti-lock brake warning indicator
  • brake pressure transducer
  • traction control switch
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I suspect the abs issue is causing the speed control not to work if it happened at the same time the cruise control stopped working. When the yellow ABS light comes on, it means the ABS is dactivated. You may have a faulty accelerometer which senses acceleration and yaw (side to side lean). I have not seen a bad one but you said it is sensitive to acceleration.
I would unplug it and see what happens. The connector should have a small tab to depress so you can pull the connector out.
Here is where it is:

Accelerometer Removal and Installation
  1. NOTE: The accelerometer is located under the center, rear passenger seat carpet. (I think you have to remove seat for access).
Cut the carpeting along the perforations.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  1. Remove the nuts and remove the accelerometer.

Have dealer hook up tester and pull fault codes if you can't find an easy solution.
Some background info
  • A malfunction in the anti-lock brake system will cause the anti-lock brake control module to shut off or inhibit the system. However, normal power-assisted braking remains.
  • Malfunctions are indicated by the yellow ABS warning indicator in the instrument cluster.
  • The anti-lock brake system is self-monitoring. When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, the anti-lock brake control module will carry out a preliminary self-check on the anti-lock electrical system indicated by a three-second illumination of the yellow ABS warning indicator in the instrument cluster.
  • During vehicle operation, including normal and anti-lock braking, the anti-lock brake control module monitors all electrical anti-lock functions and some hydraulic operations.
  • Each time the vehicle is driven, as soon as vehicle speed reaches approximately 20 km/h (12mph), the anti-lock brake control module turns on the pump motor for approximately one-half second. At this time, a mechanical noise may be heard. This is a normal function of the self-check by the anti-lock brake control module.
  • Pedal pulsation coupled with noise while braking on loose gravel, bumps, wet or snowy roads is normal and indicates correct functioning of the anti-lock brake system.
  • Warning Lamp Indicator
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) uses the yellow ABS warning indicator to alert the driver of a malfunctions in the ABS.
The yellow ABS warning indicator will come on to warn the driver that the ABS has been turned off due to a symptom that exists in the ABS. Normal power assist braking remains but wheels can lock during a panic stop while the yellow ABS warning indicator is illuminated.

    -----------------------------------------
Please report back, I am curious if that is what it is. Good luck
