Sounds like you need to adjust the linkage or possibly change the cable. You might need to change the clutch and pressure plate but that doesn't seem likely. I would start with the linkage.

SOURCE: I own a 1993 Nissan

No sorry to be the bearer of bad news but i think the fingers on the clutch are worn to excess and when the clutch is depressed fully the bearing is going through the fingers of the clutch causing the noise you can hear .Eventualy it will need a new clutch which is not expensive if you do it yourself

Check the floor by the clutch peddle if it is wet (you may need to look at the very top of the peddle)than you problem is the clutch mastercylinder

Gear doesn't engage

When the problem acures again.Have someone step on the peddle, then release does the clutch leaver in the bell housing go back allso,if not loosen the line at slave cylinder, does it go back now,if not might be binding at trans input shaft.if it does release tighten line again pump peddle 3 times and go after master cylinder line.with peddle released does fluid squrt out.has the fluid ever been changed.like all fluids they absorb moisture that freezes or creates dirt from rust and binds the system.i would flush with DOT3 or DOT4 BRAKE FLUID.

You need to replace the clutch slave.....Ii recently did mine, after the installation it was stuck too.......the way I fix it was I had a friend pumping the clutch by hand while I bleed it under the car, it took about 15-20 minutes before it got hard again.
Good luck!

Clutch has just started engaging close to floor, and pedal has gone soft, hard to place in gear when idling.

It probably has hydraulic clutch cylinder, meaning it is low on fluid, they use brake fluid for this. Look under the hood on the drivers side firewall close to the master cylinder.

Clutch ONLY engages close to the floor - how do I fix it?

Try to adjust the clutch to compensate. if the adjustments have already been made and, the pedal is very close to the floor while engaging. this will confirm pressure plate failure.

replace the pressure plate in this case.

Clutch peddle goes to the floor

Do you mean that stays to the floor because the clutch peddle has to reach the floor. If that is what you mean then probably you need a knew clutch or if it is hydraulic maybe it reflling and dicomression.
