Was driving car just cut out nownits not starting

There is fuel and fuel pressure, the injector are spraying, and there is spark at the spark plugs, change the water sensor but now stiil doesn't start, its just swings

Your distribution jumped over probably,if it is sure there is ignition and fuel spray on the injectors,
so check zero point on distribution and compare to valve timing,

you probably need a new mass air flow sensor. disconnect and drive it. I had the same problem and when I disconnected the sensor it ran good.

Guys, what you are experiencing is the car built warning system. When your engine light blinks it indicates a Major Problem has occurred or is occurring in the engine. When this occurs the cars goes into a "safe," mode which means all power is cut by at least half in an effort to save the car from more major damage. You can take your VW to any large chain autoparts store (autozone, advance, etc) a lot of them are offering a free engine diagnosis. Do this if possible to see where the problems maybe coming from and ways to fix them.

Try replacing the Mass air flow meter and check the Catalytic converter is not blocked,also look for air leaks on the induction side of the MAF sensor

Died while driving we have sprayed starting fluid in to try and start it and still wont start acts like it wants to but wont


what is year--make--model? If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs/where applicable. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse. Can you check for applicable trouble codes?

Was running fine on interstate, started losing power on hills, cut off would not restart


When it fails to start-- do you have spark or injector pulse or
fuel pressure-- while cranking--?

Could be a crank sensor --but replacing parts with no testing,
is not the way to go --learn how to test components

Could be a crank sensor failed, fuel pump or timing issue,
chain or belt whatever it has

Look at Professional Scan Tool Data--codes or not, that is
always where you start & check the battery out is always a first
step as well

I have a 1998 Suzuki Esteem, I just changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and plug wires. Car still wont start


what engine? 1.6L SOHC or 1.8L DOHC, learn what motor you have before asking for help, and state it clearly.
You did this all backwards and guessing is very costly , im so sorry you didnt, ask how to trouble shoot this simple problem.
It is simple , no matter what is the fueling, EFI or carb.
What you failed to do is :
is if it is, flooding or staving for fuel?
Instant start will start both, for a short time. so is not telling you what failure you have.
I think the motor is good, (only you know that. or used a compression guage to learn that) but if it sounds good, with test fuel, then can assume it ok ( a very hands on concept that).
if the spark tips are all dry all 4 , not just 1. then its starving for fuel.
This engine has 4 INJECtors ON 1.6l AND 1.8.
they can, clog or leak. it takes careful testing to determine what they are doing and are well hidden, so you must learn to read spark tips. x4
Lets pretend that all 4 are dry.
I check fuel pressure and it good,
if not the the Fuel pressure regulator can be bad. (way cheaper that pump + hard labor)
The ecu cuts all fuel under 2 condition (software / features)
1: crash and burn, the ECU cuts fuel the moment it THINKS spark is lost.
2: while cranking it cuts fuel if spark is lost or the throttle is held at WOT, wide open throttle.
That mean you have to check 2 inputs to the ECU if all 4 injectors are
dead and fuel pressure is near 30psi.
those 2 inputs are.
1: TPS, throttle angle, not hear 4volts. (.5 to 1 is normal)
2: a dead tachmeter line. this is how the ECU sees if spark is good.
hint, spark can be 100% good and tacho is dead.
how this happens varies by unstated engine type.

My 94 fors Taurus cuts out while driving and sometimes will not start. It cranks but won't start. We changed the fuel pump, spark plugs and distributor cap, but it is still cutting out while driving...


are there any codes? have you checked the pressure in the fuel line. you may have a bad fuel pressure regulator. or a bad crank position sensor. spray starter in the throttle body and see if it starts

Are you sure the injectors are spraying if the pressure is zero ?
Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator ?
Are the spark plugs dry ?

So after all that time and money, do you see fuel spray from the injectors when you crank the engine ?
If you have spark at the plugs and fuel spray, the gas may have water in it.

Replaced ignition module, spark plug wires, distributor cap, fuel filter, and thermostat. car starts then after a while you turn it off and try to restart it, but all it does is crank, will not turn over....


COULD BE FUEL PUMP.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40 - 47 PSI. WITH NEW FUEL FILTER. IF FUEL PRESSURE OKAY.YOUR SPARK PLUGS COULD BE FOULING OUT BY LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS BY ADDING A CAN OF SEAFOAM TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS.WHEN YOU HOOK UP FUEL PRESSURE TESTER WITH IGNITION SWITCH ON ENGINE OFF FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD READ 40 PSI. TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH IF FUEL PRESSURE DROPS FAST YOUR FUEL PUMP CHECK VALVE BAD.IF FUEL PRESSURE DROPS SLOWLY IN TEN MINUTES TIME FUEL INJECTORS IS LEAKING A NEED CLEANING.INJECTORS SPRAYING TIP CLOGGED WITH CARBON BUILD UP CAUSING THEM TO LEAK DOWN WHEN ENGINE OFF.

Vehicle shuts off on the highway,and want start. but after two to five minutes it will start again,drive another twenty to thirty miles,it might shut off wiat another two to five minutes it will start...


you need to check this when it does not start fuel pressure at the fuel rail , spark at the plugs, power at the fuel injector wire that will tell you whats wrong . if there is no fuel pressure its a bad fuel pump swap the relay with another one to test it if still no pressure the pump is bad . if you have fuel pressure and wont start spray starting fluid in the throttle body see if it starts this tells you if its spark or fuel if it does not start its spark possible bad distributor or coil if it does start that means you have spark and with fuel it will run meaning your injectors are not firing = no power at injectors = bad crank sensor its 38.00 at auto parts stores driver side top of trans bell housing make sure you push and hold it down when tightening the bolt

Check Injectors spraying Fuel when you start. Fuel pump prime because you hear the pump. IF pump is weak, then your Fuel distributor doesn't have correct pressure to spray fuel when injectors open. Do your sparks plug wet after trying several times. If they are dry then you don't have fuel. Replace injectors If they are wet then you don't have correct air:gas ratio of 14.6:1. Replace Fuel distributors
