One of the cylinders is missing. It doesn't fire sometimes and when it does, you get the backfire. Check the plugs. It should be obvious which cylinder is at fault.

SOURCE: transmission shifts at high rpms

Have your transmition fluid and filter changed that should take care of it. I have ran into that problem before and that handled it.

Check the timing chain. Some times the chain will shift with worn teeth and get out of synch. This will cause the engine to lose power and back fire. Sometimes with a flame through the carb. I did that one once. Easy fix if it is the problem.

My toyota 5e engine backfires

Engine back fires due to:
- Wrong heat range of the spark plugs.
- Spark plugs gaps too wide.
- High tension cords defective.
- Rotor, distributor cap or distributor assembly defective. (Only on distributor type ignition system).
- Ignition coils.
- Fuel pump pressure too high. (regulating valve stuck closed).

Brakes are hard and backfires

Clogged catalytic converter will cause backfiring..You can cut them off and straight pipe. Lawfully you replace it...There not cheap. Also make sure your spark plug are good and wire on in right order..

Backfiring, will not stay on. 94' cobra

first thing is check fuel pressure. or blow thru the fuel filter to see if its clogged. If the filter is OK you still need to check pressure.
