Question about 2005 Ford F-150 SuperCab

1986 f150 steering column

I need to replace my 1986 F150 Lariat steering column and all I can find in the salvage yards are C6 automatics. Mine is a AOD. The question is: can I use the column from a C6 equipped truck on my AOD? It looks like it has the same mechanical setup and detents. If I am thinking right, PRND21 is the same number of clicks as PRNDD1. Any advice?

Thanks! That's what I thought, but needed confirmation before spending an hour in the salvage yard! Thanks again!

sound like loose wires to the ignition switch in the steering column. just remove steering column shroud and lower the steering column check the ignition switch wires.first disconnect negative battery cable before working on ignition switch. either switch wires loosen or switch could be bad.

How do i replace the plastic handle on my automatic shifter for my ford f150 2006 lariat

I assume you have a console floor shifter...You may need to pull shifter all the way back to low gear to see...look near the bottom on the back side of the handle...you should find a removeable screw or pull out clip...after removing this, the handle should lift off...New handles are roughly $35. at your Ford dealer...or they are plentiful in your nearest salvage yard...Hope this helps.

I have a 96 f 150, automic & shift lever very loose in all gears. very hard to find drive, neutral, reverse.

It sounds like a bad shift collar on the column or the shift tube inside the column. Somtimes the best cure is to pick up a used steering column at a salvage yard. The last one I bought cost about
$65.00. Hope this helps.

The ring on my ignition broke on my 1988 F150 long story short let some one fix it and they took it all apart so I START IT WITH THE LITTLE metal L shaped part... I need to know get a new column or repair...

If somone has taken the column apart there's a good chance there may be some small parts missing or broken. I recommend a trip to the local salvage yard for a used column. On a 88 ford you
should be able to pick one up for 50-$75, be sure to save you're old key's for the door locks.
Hope this helps.

I have about a 3 inch play in my 86 f150 three on the tree. I know the rod is wore out. But I don't know what it is called.

Try shift rod or column shift rod. It will be a dealer part or salvage yard part. The parts guys at the dealer can probably pull up a diagram and name for your part.

Gear shift assembly

This is a common problem, I had the same issue, mine completely broke off. You can buy the new sleeve with a new rod at the dealer. The replacement is quite simple. You need to remove the upper and lower covers for the steering column, then drop the sterring column with by removing the four bolts. There are four bolts that hold the sleeve in.
