On the back of the case you should see a round tag. The numbers you are looking for are right on there.

SOURCE: 1990 jeep yj 4 wheel drive issues

what are you trying to say is that the front wheels wont engage?? if this is your problem? check the actuater on the passenger side axle there are 3 lines that go to it and that is what pulls it in and pushes it out of gear by air.

The vehicle speed sensor is located in the transfer case housing. To get your speedometer working you will have to connect the wires back to the speed sensor.

2003 GM 2500HD 6L A/T manual shift 261 NP t-case. My 4X4 stopped working, no noise, nothing. I checked the front actuator, it's fine. Transfer case shifts fine, but does not engage... any ideas?

there may be a vacuum line that engages the hubs, that has came off, it has happened to me before, get under it and look for a loose vacuum line near the transfer case

I dont know what kind of transfer case to look for, i dont know what modle my transmission is and transfer case is, i have a 2002 chevrolet silverado 1500HD please getback to me asap !!!!

The transfer case has a label on it with all the info

Trans is should be a 4L60E ,you got the year & can count
the pan bolts & see the pattern

Don't be swapping parts with other peoples junk

If you have trans or transfer problems, keep yours &
fix them.

No such thing as good used parts

2004 gmc sierra some times will not shift in or out of 2x2 or 4x4 some times it wont even show you what gear you are in. if you turn engine off it will reset and work then go back to not doing nothing. i...

first check is to inspect the wiring harnesses at the transfer case disconnecting all connectors on the transfer case and the connector to the transfer case shift motor and to inspect for water intrusion and corrision...You may also have a faulty actuator on the transfer case or faulty sensor in the actuator on the transfer case that can cause this problem
Good luck, i hope this helps.

How to disengage all wheel drive to two wheel drive

if your awd or 4wd shift lever has the option for 2wd than put the trans in nuetral at a complete stop and put the shift lever for the transfer case in 2wd if there is no option for this selection than the only way is a labor intensive transfer case swap to a np 231 and it will be a couple of modifications to allow this to work. i hope this helps

4wd doesnt work

First make sure someone did not replace the transfer case with a manual shift transfer case. If not you have what mechanics call "GHOSTS" there is a miscomunication somewhere between the button and the relay this will take time to trace down get a good multimeter and a wiring diagram.

Transfer case removal and installation

You need to remove the skid plate/crossmember (6 3/4 bolts at the frame and 3 nuts at the trans mount.). Support the trans first with a jack and a block of wood before removing. Remove the rear drive shaft from the differential and pull it out of the transfer case. Unbolt the front shaft from the transfer case only and wire to the side with a coat hanger.Disconnect the vacuum connector from the top and the speedo cable. Unbolt the shifter and bracket (tricky operation). unbolt the transfer case from the trans and pry it rearward with a floor jack under it. Reverse operation to install. The 87 used a different case than the 231 from the factory but the 231 will work. You may have a concern with the length of the shift linkage. If you do anyone with a welder can extend it for you. Good luck hope this helps.
