Question about Kia Spectra

1 Answer

Transmission shifting I have a 2007 Kia Spectra with 84,000 miles. No problems at all until a couple weeks ago, hard shifting into reverse. Now it's getting hard to shift into any gear. Could it be a fluid problem? If so, how do I check and replace fluid? I just had all fluids checked at my last oil change which was 3 weeks ago, would they have checked this also? No mention was made of the fluid being low

SOURCE: 104,000 miles transmission issue

The trans in your vehicle is a 4L30E.The check, and fill plugs are in the pan.The fluid has to be checked after the vehicle is fully warmed up,engine running,in Park. The hard to shift into 2nd gear is kind of difficult to say, check the level, maybe have it scanned for trouble codes esp. if check engine is lit. Those particular transmissions have one weak area, and thats the Low gear,or first gear band and drum. That causes a symptom of slip and chatter on takeoff from a complete stop.

if the shifter is loose and sloppy feeling then the shift cable bracket has come loose under the dash at the steering wheel. remove the lower panel under the steering wheel so you can see under the dash then get flash light and look while jiggling the shifter. you should be able to see the cable and bracket. if the bracket is loose then tighten the bolts. note this bracket is at the steering colum.

SOURCE: 2002 Alero shifting hard

I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero and my car was running rough and stalling. Also when the car was shifting, it was making a "thud" sound. My service engine light was on, so I took it to Autozone to run their diagnostic tool. It came back with code P0108 and they advised me to check my vacuum hoses as a possible solution. I looked and found that my air hose running from my throttle body to my map sensor was disconnected. I reconnected the hose and the engine ran normally and didn't make any "thud" sound when shifting. My car is back to normal. So check your hoses. If its still running rough, you may need to replace your map sensor.

Is the car running good? If the motor isnt running right and is missing with no power it will cause the transmission to shift hard due to taking to long to shift, so it could just need a tune up

mine is in the right rear brake. i first found it in 2007, when my car was in moisture, like after rain. you could hear it and feel it, you knew exactly where the problem was.i had my oil changed by NTB and had a free 22 point check, they found the problem, with little effort. the kia dealership never found a problem. i became disappointed after leaving my car with them. i was so sure they'd find the problem and fix it under warranty. my spectra had two other problems too. trunk would unlock without any effort from me. the park lights would come on with out my help. it took two years to have my lights fixed, but my trunk is still an issue after 4 years.

i was told call a service writer when my trunk opens. and i said then what, are you going to fix it then. i just can't leave my car with you for days.

Kia spectra 5 2005 jumps hard when i put on reverse and when driving goes slow.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you have the automatic transmission fluid be replaced. If the fluid is burnt the car tends to run sluggish, delayed response can be expected and can definitely shift hard. Once replaced a smooth ride and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

It is the prnd indicator switch on the shift shaft of the transmission,or a shift solenoid,or the valves are sticking in the valve body, try some lube guard, added to the transmission,it is great for stuck valves.
