Charging system failure discharges while running

My neighbor has a dakota that he sats is running and the batery tests fine. He can`t locate the battery sensor for the charging system. He also says that it seems to check out voltage wise but while the truck is running it shows on the amp gauge that it slowly goes to discharge. Has anyone ever had this type of problem?

Well. THey took the truck to have the generator check and it tested good. The battery to. I pulled the second cluster of wires{counting from the firewall forward} from the ecm and the problem went away. Codes P0622 and P0658 are coming up. Tried another ecm and the problem still exists. Any suggestions?

Take the truck to Autozone or Oriely auto parts and have them test the alternator, it is free.

MY battery went dead due to me leaving the lights on. I charged and it seems to be running fine, but the charging system failure message is coming on also battery pic in red?

The battery is not fully charged or you do indeed have a charging system problem. You need to have the charging system tested to insure proper operation

Can the car alarm kill your battery but you can start the car but after you turn it off battey died again

sure, if you let the alarm drain the battery, this can destroy any stock battery.
The car batteries are not like golf carts and are not deep discharge rated. (so can be damaged)
so charge the battery, if it wont hold a charge, it is bad.
if it discharges silently, and darkly parked , that is phantom discharge
if is discharges , driving that is a engine charge system failure.
parked over night discharging is phantom discharging.
if the alarm goes off and stays in alarm , then dont use, it.
if the battery is happy with the alarm defeated then the Alarm is bad.

The battery measure 12.6vdc charged,(rested) "voltmeter"
and running measures, 13.3 to 15vdc at idle.

this one tool can solve this problem

99 suzuki vitara v6 turns on all power but wont

the starter uses 10x more elect. power than the head lamps
or 100x more than dash lamps. it means little.
what matters most is jumper cable starts.
does it crank with jumper cables to a running, donor car,(aaa jump)
no bad starter
no, bad starter key line( immobliizer or such) ask how to test.
yes, cranks great, now.
that means the battery was dead,
i charge the battery and it now cranks, due to lights left on or
charge system failure, if battery goes to 13.3 to 15v running good
if on the charge system failed. (causing battery discharge)
if after charging a battery it will not crank car, its a bad battery (jumps ok)

My soul has sat in garage due to me being ill. the batery is dead can I just jump the soul with another one. or charge the battery

It would be best to slow charge the Battery. You do not want to overwork the Alternator and burn it out. Modern alternators are meant to rebuild a moderately discharged battery or supply on demand energy.

For a deeply compromised battery, the Alternator would have to run the current system demand AND recharge the battery.

Why the Batery and Break warning lights are always on?

did the car run good for 2 weeks? with the car running your voltage reg. should put approx. 14.6 volts if the system is charging. I would check all the fuses with a test light. Call your local dealership and they will tell what fuse is the charging system fuse.Make certain all the fuses are good first, then check both of your battery cables make sure their not corroded. if you still cant figure it out it could be a bad fusable link, also trace the wires off the alt. check for bad spots..good luck

1992 dodge dakota 5.2 dies just like turning off switch

I am having the same problem, I have to hit the computer box located on the passenger side under the hood and usually it will start, but sometimes it dies again, but after a few times it will stay running, So today I went and ask my local auto parts dealer to run a diagnostics test on it and as soon as I told him what it was doing he ask me if the computers box screw was tightened completely down, and its not the screw is striped and will not tighten, so he told me to get zip ties and make sure that the box does not move. It has been running good so far.

New Alternater will not charge batery

When you touch the hot wire to the manifold you may have damaged your alternator. Take your Blazer to your local car service center such as Advance auto and have them run a test to make sure your rebuilt alternator is charging. Most centers will do this free of charge.

Volt meter on 01 Dakota is low but truck runs fine

i presume you live in a warm climate for one thing. the voltage regulator appears to be going bad... the problem with that is most modern alternators have them built into the starter. you may be able to r&r that part or you may have to replace the alternator.
If i remember right autozone will test it for free tho i'm not in the states myself so i'm not sure.
