Have to completely strip the front off the motor,
to get to the timing chain & guides

It would take an entire day, just to remove everything

Watch some You Tube Video

That is not a job you could afford to pay someone to do

How do i fix a noisy timing chain

You replace it and the tensioners and shoes it rides on and is tensioned by. But this car doesn't use a timing chain, it has a belt driven camshaft. So that would be a belt tensioner pulley or idler pulley or the belt was adjusted incorrectly and is to tight, this causes a growling/whining with a changing pitch noise.

What is the proper timing chain tension for 1987 Mitsubishi Montero 2.6 l

The chain is automatically tensioned, no adjustment is necessary, if it is noisy then the chain or the tensioner are worn out.

The timing belt tensioner of my 2005 Nissan Murano is making noise. What should the cost of repair be, and should I have the belt replaced as well?

your vehicle doesnt have timing belt, but it has a chain. i think that you have a problem with upper timing chains, not the tensioner. is the car noisy when you rev it up?? kind of a whining noise?? at about 2000-3000rpm's??

Should I replace the timing chain on my Saturn SL2 4 cylinder engine that has 145,000 miles on it? The car runs fine and the engine doesn't make any noise or vibrations.

at the dealer we rec them at 100k,,,,even if its not noisy or anything,it is a constant wear and tear item and the chain is no bigger or stronger than a bicycke chain,,,,they stretch and can break, and if the tensioner breaks or releases tension, its as bad as the chain breaking, either way the pistons will hit the valves and bend the valves,,,,also the timing chain guides are plastic and wear out,i would rec doing it,,,,but do the guides (2) front and rear and the chain, the tensioner, and lower crank sprocket and cam gears,,,,,if the car is in good shape and youre gonna keep it do it,,,if not,,,risk it and let it go,it may never break,,,but i would do it

My 1990 nissan sentra has a noisy timing chain when running idle.

Your timing chain tensioner is using oil pressure to stay tight.Could be your oil pressure is so low at idle the tensioner just can't stay tight. At the next oil change you could go for a thicker oil and see if the tensioner keeps the chain tighter at idle.

Engine light on, noisy idling, short coolant-2001 JAG VDP

Take the car to a specialist to check the timing chain tensioners, they are a known issue. I`d advise you to not use (or even start) the car till theyve been ruled out, the engine could be made scrap if the tensioners goes.

If it does need tensioners, get the later metal type ones fitted.
