Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Hi,I have a 2001 Pt Cruiser. The key fob stopped working.. replaced batteries but still no joy.The key opens the drivers door, but as soon as I remove the key it locks again. The passenger door opens and opens all doors, but once I get in after a few seconds the alarm sounds. One the key is in the ignition it disables the alarm and car runs fine.Any thoughts? Not a huge problem just annoying!

Get the fob checked at a dealer as this sends random signals to the ign system as part of the alarm/anti theft systems ,if ign system not getting signal the anti theft system thinks cars being stolen ,using correct key in ign lets you dive vehicle but you may be storing up more problems the longer you leave it

There is a button on the key fob that has a closed padlock, and you can lock all doors simply by pressing the lock switch on the interior of the drivers door just below the mirror. The drivers door does lock with the key

How can i turn my security light off so i can start my car?

Jeremy: According to eHow.com: "
  • 1 Press the "Unlock" key on your key fob to deactivate the alarm and unlock the car doors. If you've lost your key fob, unlocking the driver's side door with the key automatically deactivates the PT Cruiser's alarm.
  • 2 Look for the black alarm box underneath the dashboard, on the driver's side of the car. Locate the override button on the box -- either a black or red button, depending on the year of the PT Cruiser -- but don't press it yet.
  • 3 Put the key in the ignition and turn the key so that the battery is on, but the engine doesn't start. Quickly push and hold in the override button until you hear the alarm sound once, indicating the alarm is disabled.

Horn chirps and doors lock on its own

Sounds like you may have a key fob that needs new battery or batteries, or it has a stuck button on the key fob, if you model doesn't have keyless entry, the you have an electrical short in your system and I would have it serviced soon. Thanks Rick.

The key fob does not work so i have to use the key to lock and unlosk the car. But you open the doors the alarmgoes off and only stops when you put the key in the inection. Help. Many thanks Judi

What a POS car. Really, a PT Cruiser, what were you thinking,? I've fixed more problems for that car than I care to remember. Anyway, Take the FOB apart and you'll see a little spring rod underneath the battery wafer. Take that thing out and into you dealer for a replacement. Once you reinstall it, call up a locksmith and have him slim-jim your doors open. After that, your good to go.

2001 PT Cruiser-the electric door locks keep locking and clicking up and down even when the car is off. Any ideas on how to repair. Have stopped using the key fobs at Chrysler dealer suggestion. Was good...

The fuse is No.3 "DR locks" (near steering wheel)
If you take the fuse out the doors will not open itselves.

The root cause of the problem will be a microswitch inside the drivers door?

Key fob on my audi a3 1998 has stopped working

the problem is inside the key fob if there is no response from the key fob at all then a new one will be needed. the problem is in side there is a mini circuit board in which all the sensors for that specific car are soldered on they can break very easly.
