Question about 2001 Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

My car's check engine codes are p1723, p0740, p0715, p0720, p0750, p0755, p0760, p0765, p1529. the last five codes will not erase. I just had the transmission rebuilt, so do I need a new computer? Or did I waste a lot of money for something I didn't need?

My car would rev high from go and jump to, what I think is, third gear and be stuck like that. Sometimes it would shift just fine, and sometimes not. It eventually got more frequent and now it is just stuck in that gear when it is in drive. The mechanic was independent, used to run his own shop, and said the transmission was almost metal to metal. He now said that the transmission is great until the computer turns on the check engine light (that was before it was stuck permanently) He thinks it's the computer because he can't get some of the codes to erase and thinks I just need to replace it. Any help would be great.

All of the codes are related to the transmission. Some indicate the input speed sensor. I'd bring it back to the transmission shop and tell them to deal with it. I don't know what your car was doing before you had the transmission replaced so it's hard to tell whether the repair was needed but since it was done, the problem should be the transmission shops, not yours. Best of luck and please post back, would love to hear how you make out. Greg

You listed 9 codes and said the last 5 won't erase. Tells me that the computer worked to clear 4 of the codes. The issue may be simple enough that he assumed the codes would clear themselves. At the very least, if he won't rectify the problem, I'd take it to a qualified mechanic (preferably ASE certified) or a dealer to check it out. Afterward, you will know for sure whether the issue should have been resolved by the trans mechanic or if there was a computer problem unrelated to the repair.

How can you fix internal soleniod in a transmission?

go after the P1768 code first. sounds like trans relay is not sending power to the solenoid pack. check fuse #2 {should be a yellow 20 amp fuse} in underhood fuse/relay box. if it's blown it will cause all these codes. the relay is marked EATX and is in the same box as fuse. should be in one of the corners of the box. hope this helps, let me know

2001 hyundai santa fe transmission went into neutral mode, and won't engage gears until turning off car for few minutes, and driven about 100 yards continues.Came up with diagnostic codes...

Hello, all your codes are related to transmission shift solenoid circuit condtion eg: Transmission > Automatic Transaxle > P0750 Low and Reverse Solenoid Valve Circuit - Open or Short(GND). Automatic Transaxle > P0755 Underdrive Solenoid Valve Circuit - Open or Short(GND). Automatic Transaxle > P0760 Second Solenoid Valve Circuit - Open or Short(GND). Automatic Transaxle > P0765 Overdrive Solenoid Valve Circuit - Open or Short(GND). Wether your vehicle is equipped with a 4 cylinder or v6 ,all the codes are for either engine models. Check your main wire harness that plugs into the top of the transmission and verify, that a good connection is present. if all looks ok and the vehicle still exibits the same symptoms. The problem may also be in the ECM/TCM control module itself. A Hyundai dealer would have the proper scan tool and tester to verify and perform actuation tests on the shift solendoids themselves to make sure they are working correctly. This does not mean that the transmission itself has failed. You basically have an open circuit somewhere that the solenoids are not getting a good ground. Hope this helps.
