    1997 Chrysler Cirrus.....

Keeps blowing radio/dome light (IOD) fuse, PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I found the short! FOR ALL of you who may find yourself in the same situation, the fix was a short inside the AC module below the radio. At the back of the AC control module, there are two connectors. Disconnect the smaller 9 pin connectors and that will do it! The short was on the circuit board that has the lights on it

I have the BCM working again so you can read your trouble codes with OBD scanner too.

    Pain in the azz!

"Ignition off draw". Fuse. Chrysler uses that fuse for radio memory, dome lights, and other similar things. This fuse is usually removed when the car will be stored for more than a few weeks so the battery is not drawn down.

There must be a short circuit in one of those areas.
Hope this helps.

Try cleaning the fuse holder contacts as is a known problem for corrosion etc causing an earth to fuse , once cleaned spray with some thing like wd 40 , just a little, will help repel water

I keep blowing the iod fuse

I unplugged the light harness under the hood. No success. I took the radio out and looked at the wiring harness and found some exposed wires. I taped them and no success. I've tried to look over the wires and havnt really found anything wrong. It was alos suggested to me to remove the sensors in the door jams and see if this solves the problem? The IOD sensor is controlling my overhead dome lights, my radio, and my lights under the hood and my PCU port so I can't pull any codes from the computer. Any ideas would be awesome. I'm looking forward to this forum

have an auto electrician check it over for a short or overload, could be any of a number of things . the systems that become active with the turning of the key may be the source of the problem. could be a short in the wiringgbehind the instrument binacle

My IOD fuse keeps blowing

oid is there way of saying hot at times,(others use)
IOD, is correct name
ignition OFF, drain
these fuses are pulled when car leaves factory , keeping battery fresh, then put back , at dealer
the are are just keep alive features, (electroncs)
1: PCM ,memory (errors, and fuel trim learning values)
2: radio stations,
3: NAV settings;
4: all the various brains, in system, pcm bcm , tcm , an others)
Allen Turning called it a brain, so he wins, (lol)
all feature on car with LEARN in the descriptions, is this.
IOD fuse.
but you can read the schmetic right> and see what loads connect to your fuse , right? and then pull it and see if current falls to ok.
my guess, (i fix ECUs for years, and lots of controllers) at component level for 50 years. ) the electolytic caps some will go bad at too cold a temperature, good ones go to -40F or -40C (crossover) some china clones of these parts are pure rotten junk.
not even tested, there, they just clone the words, .....

finding which cap is shorting is not easy. (too intermittant, even hard for me with my fancy gear, (i have current logger, i designed)

post the real location of the fuse , a photo is best.
then we look it up
or you do it at alldata.com
(google finds it in 1/10sec)
im hoping its some cheap radio doing this
so unplug it and see.
unpluggin pCM or BCM etc is not going to work, as car will not run.

i think normal current is about 0.020 amps max
ase/sae , averages. 20 mA.
blowing fuse is gross short.
i hope it says shorted,so is 1000x easier to find.

What is an IOD fuse

IOD stands for, ignition off draw. If your going to store your vehicle or not use it for long periods of time then pull this fuse. It helps you keep from having a dead battery. It removes power from unnecessary accessories .

Driver side sliding door not working need diagram for IOD fuse

That fuse has nothing to do with the door. IOD stands for Ignition Off Draw-it's the circuit responsible for small amounts of battery power to keep computer memory, radio presets, the clock, and security system alive when key is in off or removed.
I don't know which fuse for the door, but not the IOD fuse.

You will have a small draw on the iod fuse circuit because the Ecu keep alive memory runs on that circuit. I believe the spec is .5MV What is the problem that you have ? Running batt down? How old is Batt?

Cannot switch from defrost to A/C, does not blow cool air period and the A/C was charged. but not really sure if the A/C unit in the car is the right one or not.

I just fixed this same problem on my son's 96 Stratus this evening. The first thing you want to try is to pull the IOD fuse in the fuse box. The IOD fuse is the one in the #5 slot, that controls the interior lights and radio memory.
With the car off and the key out of the ignition, pull the IOD fuse. wait about a minute, then replace the fuse. Turn the ignition to the "On" position (but not all the way to start).
This clears the BCM faults, and causes the HVAC system to re-calibrate. You should hear a series of whirring sounds (other that the whirring of the fuel pump). Once these sounds stop, you should be able to switch from defrost to the other settings.
Hope this was helpful :-)

Gas chime keeps going off. Gas tank is half full.

Open your hood and look for the fuse and relay center just above the battery . open the cover and look for a fuse called IOD usually towards the top of the block , they are labeled . Remove the IOD fuse for 20 seconds and then reinsert. The BCM becomes hung and this will reset it in a lot of cases .
