Mgf starting problems

Car will not start after an 8 day spell.I have fitted new spark plugs and recharged the battery.the fuel pump is working and the tank is half full.The engine fires on one cylinder when trying to start but will not pick up on the rest.Could it be the leads?How can I check them?

It could be the leads, you can check them with a multimeter. Find out what resistance is stated for your leads and check, the resistance will vary according to the length of the lead. You should be able to find a site that will give you the resistance to length figures.
You can also check the dissie cap(cracks and excessive wear on poles), rotor, points and condensor (if you don't have electronic or magnetronic ignition).

    Is it firing on all cylinders?What sort of ignition does it have in the dissie(points, electronic)? How old is the fuel in the tank? Did you check coil and lead for health?

Are you getting a check eng lite? you may have a crank or cam position sensor not picking up correctly.

SOURCE: car only running on 2 cylinders

Cyl 2 and 4 are probably run off the same ignition coil. I would start by checking for spart on those cylinders.

It is not likely a fuel problem if it is only effecting 2 cylinders.

you could have a bad cylanod in your starter that's what is sounds like or you might need a new starter sence you have looked and tested everything else that's the only other peice of resenable equitment left and if thats not it you could try the O2 sencer in the car if that's bad or going out it will make a car act that way. if that's not it then your problem, lys in the corb. but i would try the cylanoid in the starter first and work your way up from there

I would say replace ignition coil, that might me the problem, otherwise it can be the ecu, which might have some electrical problems not allowing the car to stay running. Good luck.

when you change the wires did it bring back the dead cylinder? If not check the resistance on that injector it should read 11 to 15 ohms, check another injector to see specific ohms they should be close if not exact.

The fuel pump incorporates a inertia switch,The switch is next to the ECM,you may have triggered,reset it by pressing the red top.If that doesnt do it the pressure regulator uses a spring diaghram modified by a vacuum signal,remove the vacuum signal (just to start)

Car wont start in very cold weather...new battery mechanic says car starts so not sure if its the starter because the car starts now


You turn the key to start and hear the starter motor crank the engine, but when you release the key, the cranking stops and there is silence. This means that the battery and starting motor are working properly, but the engine is not firing. If you continue cranking the engine over in this way, the battery will eventually run down and will need to be recharged, but the battery and starter are not the cause of your problem.
There are a number of causes for this type of no-start condition, the most common being that you are simply out of gas. Assuming that you have fuel in the tank, you will need to go through a series of tests to determine what is causing the problem. The testing procedure is as follows:---

Spark:---------An easy way to test for spark is with an inexpensive spark tester. This is a device that is readily available at most auto supply stores. You use it by simply holding it next to a spark plug wire. If you see the neon lamp flashing while someone cranks the engine, then you have spark and should move on to checking for fuel. If there is no spark, or a very weak spark, you will have to replace the spark plug or the coil pack.It has to be checked.

Fuel:
First step here is to listen for the fuel pump running inside the gas tank. When you turn the key to run, you should easily hear the pump come on, run for a few seconds to build fuel pressure, then turn off. If you do not hear it, it could mean that the fuel pump or circuitry is bad. (Fuel pump failure is a common problem).

Fuel injected cars are very sensitive to proper fuel pressure. If the pressure is off, even by a few pounds, it will cause noticeable performance problems, or a no-start condition. To check for proper fuel pressure, you will need a fuel pressure gauge that is suitable for your type of system. Or you can also get the fuel pressure tested at local car garage, If fuel pressure is low then its a fuel pump and fuel filter related problem.

Compression:

If you know that you have spark and fuel, the next step is to check for compression. For this, you will need a mechanic's grade compression tester that will screw into a spark plug hole. You will need to remove the spark plugs and use the compression tester to test the compression on each cylinder. If the compression is very low on all cylinders, that is a sure sign that the timing belt (or timing chain depending on the engine) has failed and will have to be replaced.

Sometimes my car starts and sometimes it doesn't. I just put in a new battery. What else should I check?


Check if your getting a 12volt charge from your altinator.If not then replacing it will sove your problem.

My car will not start at all


There are two types of problem. 1)No start at all. 2)The other problem is car turns over but do not start. ------------- No start at all;----------May be the battery of your car is got completely drained. sometimes by mistake any of the car lights or ac or any battery consuming accessory remains on.And due to this battery gets completely drained and due to no voltage in battery the car does not start.In some cases the car does not gets turned off.If there is a problem in ignition switch circuit and this also drains the battery.Get the car battery voltage checked.It should be 12 volt if the battery is properly charged.This will let you know what is the problem .Also check the battery connections if its got loose then this can happen. ---------------- The other problem is car turns over but do not start.:----------Engine cranks normally, but it does not fire:

My 2004 range rover wont start we have just had a new fuel pump and some injectors fitted but this morning it just seemed dead when i tried to start it it just made a clicking noise help

The engine does not start


If its not starting at all then its a battery related problem.Get it checked with new battery.But if its making a cranking noise when you turn the key in ignition to start,but its not turning over then it will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also this problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the car. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt.If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced.If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the care. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the car. If it very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the car. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the car is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gage and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. Car will not roll over in park...starts occassionally then dies within a few seconds, cranks fine...just will not turn over. Purchased new battery, too.


Most probably its a low fuel pressure related problem.Get the fuel pressure checked.If its low then this is faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter issue.the other possibilities are,-----

I have a 96 cavy z24 battery died but was able to get car home


you may have blown a fuse in a process of remove and install the alternator ( the car was running before that right? )
so check all your fuses and fusible links coming from the starter.
check for spark at spark plugs
check for fuel pressure
these will help you to issolate problems

Mazda rx8 flooded .brakedown come tried to start engine turned over !then starter got hot ,now dosnt turn over just clicks? any wdvice please


Your problem is common in the RX-8. It occurs when you start a cold engine and shut it off before it reaches normal operating temperature. If your car does flood, you can first try depressing the accelerator completely and holding it (which shuts off the fuel pump) and then crank the motor for about 10 seconds (not longer or you may damage your starter). If this procedure above does not work, here is the technique a Mazda dealership will normally use (to be performed at your own risk): 1. Use jumper cables to connect to another car battery. 2. Unplug Air pump connector (the black circular motor housing to the left of the oil filler cap) 3. Take fuel pump fuse out (number 22, a 20 amp, 3 from the top of the second column of the fuse box 4. Crank for 4 seconds, pause for 2 seconds, repeat for about a minute 5. Leave for a minute 6. Crank for 4 seconds, pause for 2 seconds, repeat for about a minute 7. Put fuel pump fuse back in 8. Crank for up to 10 seconds, if it catches but doesn?t start, stop cranking 9. If not started go back to step 3 10. If started, wait 30 seconds for oil pressure to rise 11. Stand on throttle until white smoke stops coming out of the exhaust 12. Disconnect jump leads 13. Leave to warm up on idle for a few minutes 14. Put air pump connector back on (see note 3) 15. Go for a nice long drive to recharge the battery
