The module is what you touch to turn the A/C, and heat on. The bezel in front of it just pops off. Then remove the screws to pull out the controller.

Did you replace the mode door actuator ? Manual or automatic HVAC system .

When replacing the HVAC control module it will be necessary to allow the HVAC control module to perform a calibration process. When installing the HVAC control module be sure to perform the following:
Important: Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control module while the HVAC control module is self-calibrating. If interrupted, improper HVAC performance will result.
Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the scan tool.
Install the HVAC control module.
Connect all previously disconnected components.
Start the vehicle.
Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.

Preferred Method (w/ Scan Tool)

Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.

Alternate Method (w/o Scan Tool)
Clear all DTCs.
Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Install the HVAC actuator.
Connect all previously disconnected components.
Remove the HVAC B fuse for a minimum of 10 seconds.
Install the HVAC B fuse.
Start the vehicle.
Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.

My 2002 Cadillac Deville won't blow air directly to my face out of the vents, please help.


Center vents not working , is this what your saying ? Air comes out of the defroster vent or floor vent only ? Mode door stuck or mode door actuator bad !
Mode and Recirculation Actuators The mode and recirculation actuators are 2-wire bi-directional electric motors. Two control circuits enable the actuators to operate. The control circuits use either a 0 or 12 volt value to co-ordinate the actuator movement. When the actuator is at rest, both control circuits have a value of 12 volts. In order to move the actuator, the HVAC control module grounds the appropriate control circuit for the commanded direction. The HVAC control module reverses the polarity of the control circuits to move the actuator in the opposite direction.
The HVAC control module(IPM) determines the door position by counting motor pulses on one of the control circuits. These pulses are small voltage fluctuations that occur when the brush is shorted across two commutator contacts as the motor rotates. As the actuator shaft rotates, the HVAC control module(IPM) monitors the voltage drop across an internal resistance to detect the pulses. The HVAC control module(IPM) converts the pulses to counts with a range of 0-255 counts. The HVAC control module(IPM) uses a range of 0-255 counts to index the actuator position.
If the problem is the actuator the instrument panel has to be removed to replace it . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

I have codes b0428 and B3532 coming up . I just need to know what the problem may possibly be and what might I do to fix it ?


Code B0428 is for the rear temp actuator.
Code B3532 is for the rear mode actuator for the HVAC unit

What would cause it to die when I turn on A/C or heater?


Start by checking power an grounds at the control panel ,you'll have to take the plastic trim panel off to get the control panel out . You could have a bad HVAC panel ,

sounds like you have a temp door motor problem on the drivers side. the motors seize/stick and have to be replaced.

You have a computer controlled HVAC system ! It has the capability of setting DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes !
The HVAC control module is a non-GMLAN device that interfaces between the operator and the HVAC system to maintain air temperature and distribution settings. The battery positive and ignition 3 voltage circuits provide power to the control module. The HVAC control module during defrost mode will change the A/C compressor LED status from on to off. The control head displays recirc, outside air, A/C and rear defrost feedback status through LED indicators. The control head has a rear defrost request switch please refer to Rear Window Defogger Description and Operation in Stationary Windows for operation. The HVAC control head will display NO COMMUNICATION when checking DTCs or doing a vehicle diagnostic system check refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle and Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.
The rear window defogger system consists of the following components:

There is a little motor on the heater box under the dash that needs to be replaced. It's called a blend door actuator...

How to replace Dash light on temper control passenger side


Dismantling and mantling.
  1. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (Refer To List 1) or Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (Refer To List 2).
  2. Remove the HVAC control module screws.
  3. Depress the HVAC control module tabs (3) and remove the HVAC control module (2) from the I/P (4).
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1) from the HVAC control module (2).

fix the module..... what ever.
and put it back
then see the last step.

Refer to Control Module References for programming and setup information.
then states
If the HVAC control module is replaced, an automatic re-calibration of all the actuators will occur. No additional procedures are necessary.

Blower Motor Control Processor
The blower motor control processor controls the speed of the blower motor by increasing or decreasing the voltage drop on the ground side of the blower motor. The HVAC control module provides a voltage signal to the blower motor control processor over the blower motor speed control circuit. As the requested blower speed increases, the HVAC control module increases the amount of time that the speed signal is modulated to ground. As the requested blower speed decreases, the HVAC control module decreases the amount of time that the signal is modulated to ground.

Air Speed - Front Control
The blower motor forces outside air into the vehicle's interior. The vehicle operator determines the blower motor's speed when the driver places the blower switch in one of 5 blower speeds. The blower motor will always operate in any switch position other than OFF, as long as the ignition switch is in the RUN position. The blower motor and mode switches are located within the HVAC control module. The blower motor OFF input is connected in series with the HVAC control module by the off blower motor control circuit.
Depending upon the selected speed, power is provided to the blower motor from either the ignition 3 voltage or battery positive voltage circuits from the fuse block. The battery positive voltage circuit only provides power when the High blower switch position is selected. Power and ground are provided to the HVAC control module by the ignition 3 voltage and the ground circuits.
Low Blower Speed
When the Low 1 blower speed is selected, the HVAC control module applies voltage to the blower motor resistor assembly through the low blower motor control circuit. Voltage is divided between 4 series resistors, a blower relay, and the blower motor to achieve the desired blower speed. The blower motor is grounded through the ground circuit.
Medium Blower Speeds
When the Medium 1 blower speed is selected, the HVAC control module applies voltage to the blower motor resistor assembly through the medium 1 blower motor control circuit. Voltage is divided between 3 series resistors, a blower relay, and the blower motor to achieve the desired blower speed. The blower motor is grounded through the ground circuit.
When the Medium 2 blower speed is selected, the HVAC control module applies voltage to the blower motor resistor assembly through the medium 2 blower motor control circuit. Voltage is divided between 2 series resistors, a blower relay, and the blower motor to achieve the desired blower speed. The blower motor is grounded through the ground circuit.
When the Medium 3 blower speed is selected, the HVAC control module applies voltage to the blower motor resistor assembly through the medium 3 blower motor control circuit. Voltage is divided between a series resistor, a blower relay, and the blower motor to achieve the desired blower speed. The blower motor is grounded through the ground circuit.
High Blower Speed
When the High blower speed is selected, the HVAC control module applies voltage to the blower motor resistor assembly through the high blower motor control circuit. The voltage energizes the blower relay, causing the blower motor to be connected directly to the battery positive voltage circuit. The blower motor and blower motor relay are grounded through the ground circuit.

It sounds like it could be the control panel or the A/C And Heater Control Calibration you can give this info to your mechanic... but if i were you i would go to gm dealer.replacing the wrong part will get expensive fast..... hopes this helps you..........................................A/C And Heater Control Calibration
