The module is what you touch to turn the A/C, and heat on. The bezel in front of it just pops off. Then remove the screws to pull out the controller.

Center vents not working , is this what your saying ? Air comes out of the defroster vent or floor vent only ? Mode door stuck or mode door actuator bad !
Mode and Recirculation Actuators The mode and recirculation actuators are 2-wire bi-directional electric motors. Two control circuits enable the actuators to operate. The control circuits use either a 0 or 12 volt value to co-ordinate the actuator movement. When the actuator is at rest, both control circuits have a value of 12 volts. In order to move the actuator, the HVAC control module grounds the appropriate control circuit for the commanded direction. The HVAC control module reverses the polarity of the control circuits to move the actuator in the opposite direction.
The HVAC control module(IPM) determines the door position by counting motor pulses on one of the control circuits. These pulses are small voltage fluctuations that occur when the brush is shorted across two commutator contacts as the motor rotates. As the actuator shaft rotates, the HVAC control module(IPM) monitors the voltage drop across an internal resistance to detect the pulses. The HVAC control module(IPM) converts the pulses to counts with a range of 0-255 counts. The HVAC control module(IPM) uses a range of 0-255 counts to index the actuator position.
If the problem is the actuator the instrument panel has to be removed to replace it . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

I have codes b0428 and B3532 coming up . I just need to know what the problem may possibly be and what might I do to fix it ?


Code B0428 is for the rear temp actuator.
Code B3532 is for the rear mode actuator for the HVAC unit

Air Distribution
The HVAC control module controls the distribution of air by the use of a defrost actuator and a mode actuator. The modes that may be selected are:

The mode and defrost actuators are connected to the mode and defrost doors by a cam type linkage system. Depending on the position of the door, air is directed through the HVAC module and distributed through various ducts leading to the outlets in the dash. If the HVAC control module detects a fault with the mode or defrost doors the HVAC control module will try to drive the actuator for a predetermined amount of time, to defrost, which is the defaulted position for the mode and defrost door actuators. When the mode switch is placed in the defrost or defog positions the A/C is commanded on and the recirculation door is moved to the outside air position to help reduce window fogging. A/C is available in all modes and recirculation is only available in the panel and bi-level modes.
Circuit Description The following DTCs are for the HVAC door actuators: ?€¢
B0248 is for the defrost actuator.

B0263 is for the mode actuator.

B0408 is for the left air temperature actuator.
?€¢
B0418 is for the right air temperature actuator.
The HVAC control module controls the HVAC door actuators to regulate the airflow through the HVAC system. Each actuator consists of a stepper motor, a logic circuit, and a potentiometer. The potentiometer inside the door actuator allows the module to monitor the current position of the actuator drive shaft. The logic circuit inside the actuators receives control signals from the HVAC control module and controls the internal stepper motor. When a door positional change is required, the HVAC control module calculates a commanded door position. The module compares the commanded door position to the actual door position and determines the needed direction of motor rotation. The module applies a signal voltage to the door control circuit that is an input to the internal logic circuit of the door actuator. A 5 volt signal increases the door position. A 0 volt signal decreases the door position. When the commanded door position is equal to the actual door position, the HVAC control module sends a 2.5 volt signal to the door actuator and motor rotation stops. The ignition 3 voltage circuit provides source voltage to the logic circuit. The module provides ground to the actuator logic circuit through the low reference circuit. I would start by having the HVAC control module checked for DTC'S -diagnostic trouble codes First . Then check the system by using scan tool data . 1

What would cause it to die when I turn on A/C or heater?


Start by checking power an grounds at the control panel ,you'll have to take the plastic trim panel off to get the control panel out . You could have a bad HVAC panel ,

How do you know there is no B+ voltage ? Did you check with a volt meter ?
Red with white stripe wire gets power from AIRCON fuse 15amp I/P fuse box.

sounds like you have a temp door motor problem on the drivers side. the motors seize/stick and have to be replaced.

You have a computer controlled HVAC system ! It has the capability of setting DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes !
The HVAC control module is a non-GMLAN device that interfaces between the operator and the HVAC system to maintain air temperature and distribution settings. The battery positive and ignition 3 voltage circuits provide power to the control module. The HVAC control module during defrost mode will change the A/C compressor LED status from on to off. The control head displays recirc, outside air, A/C and rear defrost feedback status through LED indicators. The control head has a rear defrost request switch please refer to Rear Window Defogger Description and Operation in Stationary Windows for operation. The HVAC control head will display NO COMMUNICATION when checking DTCs or doing a vehicle diagnostic system check refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle and Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.
The rear window defogger system consists of the following components:

There is a little motor on the heater box under the dash that needs to be replaced. It's called a blend door actuator...

How to replace Dash light on temper control passenger side


Dismantling and mantling.
  1. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (Refer To List 1) or Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (Refer To List 2).
  2. Remove the HVAC control module screws.
  3. Depress the HVAC control module tabs (3) and remove the HVAC control module (2) from the I/P (4).
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1) from the HVAC control module (2).

fix the module..... what ever.
and put it back
then see the last step.

Refer to Control Module References for programming and setup information.

If the HVAC control module is replaced, an automatic re-calibration of all the actuators will occur. No additional procedures are necessary.

It sounds like it could be the control panel or the A/C And Heater Control Calibration you can give this info to your mechanic... but if i were you i would go to gm dealer.replacing the wrong part will get expensive fast..... hopes this helps you..........................................A/C And Heater Control Calibration

When replacing the HVAC control module it will be necessary to allow the HVAC control module to perform a calibration process. When installing the HVAC control module be sure to perform the following:Important: Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control module while the HVAC control module is self-calibrating. If interrupted, improper HVAC performance will result.
  1. Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the scan tool.
  3. Install the HVAC control module.
  4. Connect all previously disconnected components.
  5. Start the vehicle.
  6. Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
  7. Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.
When replacing the HVAC actuator it will be necessary to allow the HVAC control module to perform a calibration process. When installing the HVAC actuator be sure to perform one of the following:Important: Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control module while the HVAC control module is self-calibrating. If interrupted improper HVAC performance will result.
Alternate Method (W/O Scan Tool)
  1. Clear all DTCs.
  2. Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Install the HVAC actuator.
  4. Connect all previously disconnected components.
  5. Remove the HVAC B fuse for a minimum of 10 seconds.
  6. Install the HVAC B fuse.
  7. Start the vehicle.
  8. Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
  9. Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.
Preferred Method (W/ Scan Tool)
  1. Clear all DTCs.
  2. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
  3. Install the HVAC actuator.
  4. Connect all previously disconnected components.
  5. Start the vehicle.
  6. With the scan tool, initiate the Motor Re-calibration feature of the Heating and Air Conditioning Special Functions menu.
  7. Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.
