2009 VW Routan - 2nd row captain seats will not fold forward? They will recline. Need to fold flat forward to remove from the van?

My 2nd row captain seats will not fold forward at all. They do recline with no problem? Any ideas?

Dear Dawn S, I also have the same problem, but seem to recall I was able to fold them at one time early on. Despite the manual showing how simple it should be, it seems both seats are now locked from going forward (they both recline just fine). I took the car to the VW dealer service garage, and the guys there felt that the seats do not fold forward. I have just found the time again to work on this problem, and if I come up with a solution, I will post it here.

SOURCE: 2001 VW Beetle. The driver's front seat adjuster

I'm assuming you have manual adjustment seats. There is a spring underneath the seat that locks the end of the lever into corresponding notches in the seat frame rail. That spring has either fallen off or broken.

SOURCE: how to fix a stuck seat belt VW GTI 2009

I just solved the problem for a stuck rear center seat belt in my 2002 Jetta.

Flip the base seat cushion forward against the front seat backs. Trace down along the belt to its tether point on the floor. The belt is sewn around a steel loop. The loop is anchored to a black steel hook. A thin silvery retainer plate is spring tensioned on top of the loop to prevent it from sliding off of the hook when the seat back is folded.

Therefore, you need to press the silvery retainer plate away from the hook (push up) to allow the loop to be slid from the hook. The belt was tight with the seat back in the upright position, so it was necessary to fold the seat back forward to create slack in the belt. Now push the belt loop towards the trunk and slide it off of the end of the hook (only possible with the retainer plate pushed up out of the way).

Now with total release of tension on the system via the bottom end of the seat belt being untethered and with the seat back returned to the upright position, normal extension and retraction of the belt will be reestablished. Next, simply extend the seat belt and slide the loop back into place over the floor hook. It snaps past the silvery retainer plate without all the effort required to hold the plate up during removal of the loop during disassembly.

Check again, the seat belt should be extending and retracting properly. Now just put the seat cushion back into regular position and you will be able to safely buckle up three people across the back seat.

It took about as long to do this repair as it has taken to post this answer to the problem. Note, the seat belt safety mechanism only allows normal extension and retraction of the belt when the seat back is upright.

You can programm the new remote key for VW Routan 2009 only using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. I suggest you to go to a VW dealer for this job. Good Luck!

Why does my front a/c blows cold air but my read blows hot for a 2009 volkswagen routan ?

Does your Routan have the multi zone control. The back temperature can be controlled separately from the front. Look at the console on the roof between the front and middle row seats. There is a mixture control there that will control the temperature for the back.

How to remove 2nd row bucket seats

The manual says to pull the strap or level and "double fold" it. The first time I tried it, the seat stuck. The trick was to do it as a single motion, fold the chair in half and swing the seat up and forward. Don't fold the back down then pull again to get the seat forward, it just gets stuck.

Need to remove backseat

You can not remove the far back seat, only the middle one. But you can slide it all the way foward. I have had my van for two years and just learned how to do it today from my husband. Below the rear are two levers. A and B. Make sure the back of the seat is in the upright position and then pull on Levee A. At the same time, lift of the bottom of the seat. It will go up and fold together making a V with the back of the seat. Then pull lever B and slide seat forward.
