Check your fuel pressure...Often the pump check valve goes bad and permits drainback. This can also happen at the engine end of the system if an injector is leaking ( usually though you will get a black puff of smoke on start up if injector)

I replaced the battery on a 2001 Jeep grand Cherokee and security is on so it wont start how do I reset computer to get it to start

Directly from the owners manual...
1.- Enter your car wth your ignition key and your theft remote, and press the Lock button on your remote five times in 10 seconds.
2.- Insert your key into the Jeep's ignition cylinder, and then turn the key to the "Run" position. Wait for the car's automatic chiming sound to stop before proceeding.
3.- Press and hold the Unlock button on your remote for around five seconds, and then press and hold the Panic button at the same time.
4.- Hold both buttons together for one second and then release. Wait for the car's chimes to sound again and then press and release the Lock and Unlock buttons on your remote.
5.- Press and release just the Unlock button on the remote next and wait for a chime again to indicate successful programming. You can then remove your ignition key to complete the resetting process.

Hope this helps; keep us updated.

1999 jeep grand laredo will turn over and cut off after 3 seconds. A key with a circle will blink on the dash. I also need to keep it in shade, otherwise it will not stay on after turning over. Nothing...

it sounds like the anti theft security system is preventing it from starting, the only fix i know of is to manualy lock and unlock the passenger door a few times to clear the system then try to start the jeep with the original coded key.if the key is to worn then a replacement key should fix it,and you can order 1 from either the dealer or from the dealer online.or you could try this fix i found online ,Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
green/orange '-' in your case & is
Located in the drivers kick panel.

Once Located, splice into
(strip off a bit of the wires covering to expose
the copper on the wire) either wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. Then tape it off.

This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

The security system locked the jeeps ignition but i dont know how to restart the system and i try to start it and it wont not even jumping it help

if you have both ' original ' keys that came with the Jeep - you can try and flip them through the system and get the Jeeps computer to accept them,, take both keys and sit in the drivers seat -- with one key put it in the ignition and turn to the on position - wait about 15 -20 seconds, remove the key and then put the other key in and turn to the on postion -- wait 15 to 20 seconds, remove the key and now put the first key back into the ignition and turn to the on postion and wait 15 to 20 seconds,,, now try and start the Jeep.
now if one of the keys is not an original key ( a clone key ) -- then this might not work,, and you will need a automotive locksmith to come out and re-program your keys to the Jeeps computer. since you already have keys, this is not a very expensive trip -- you will just be charged for the service call and the programming of the Jeep.

i know on the 99 mountaineers with the 5.0 the way the fuel lines were routed from the factory, heat from the motor would vaporize the fuel in the lines when engine was cut off warm. It would turn quite a few times before starting after that happened. try turning your key on and off a couple of times before you actually try starting it and it should start quicker. I know this from experience.

Doesn't start on first turn, by 2nd or 3rd starts. Idles rough.

Battery should be around 12V the alternator puts out 14V. Sounds like a fuel problem, leaking injectors or injector's O-rings. Weak or faulty fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, faulty fuel regulator. Try this, when starting the car while cold. Put the key all the way to the ON position, wait five to ten seconds then crank the car to start. It should start the first time the longer you give it the more fuel pressure there will be to start the car.

2001 Jeep Wrangler not starting

have you check the alternator possible problem. if not that you have a draw on the battery with the key off. you need an amp meter one that will clip around the positive cable from the battery this will tell you if your vehicle has a parasitic draw with the key off. most parts stores have loaner tools you can use. hope this helps some.

Starting problem

Providing that the motor turns when you turn the key, I'm going to guess that you may have a bad ignition switch or a poor connection somewhere between the key and the pump. I just checked the only wiring diagram I have and am seeing two fuel pump relays. This diagraqm has lied to me before, but it may be worth checking this out!
