Exhaust gas recirculation

Bmw 318I 1998, at low rpm and warm engine (belowe 1300-1550 rpm), a squeaking noise starts, and it disappears when engine runs higher rpm; it's not the a/c compressore, or belts or water pump; removing the oil cap, with engine running, thre seem to be a vacuum...

If as you say it feels like a vacuum being released it could be the crankcase ventilation hose is blocked not sure were on this model but a google search should find it

i would first check the timing and if that does not fit i would take the cover back off and look at the belt for a bad or missing tooth

check the airflow meter it may be stuck and make sure the electrical connection to it is not loose and also check the hose leading to it are not loose or cracked they tend to crack at the bottom where you cannot see it unless you remove it and check

Camshaft To Crankshaft Position Correlation Fault is what p1345 means. if the problem isnt electrical I would imagine the timing chain could be stretched and the engine is out of time somehow

Sounds like you're running rich.

First, change the air filter, and check that the air intake isn't blocked somewhere.

If that doesn't sort it out, it's the carb. They have an automatic choke (cold start), which could be sticking on and causing problems.

One thing it isn't is the timing belt (sorry Satanscash) as this engine doesn't have one... and even if it did, failure of the belt results in a very dead engine!

Weird squeaking noise from under hood started from sitting an hour after being driven ,noise goes away when accelerating but comes back when not ,when parked noise is constant a type of squeaking noise


You should have your belts checked for proper tension. If they're squeaking when the engine is at a low RPM then they are most likely loose and need to be tightened. However, that squeak may also be an indication that one of the tensioners in the belt's line may be wearing down. If that is the case the tensioner will need to be replaced since the bearing inside is worn down beyond the point where lubrication would be useful.

Cant get my bmw318i to idle


Go to a shop like an Auto Zone and have them put the OBD 2 diagnostic tester to it. It sounds like either a Throttle Position Sensor or a bad Exhaust Gas Recirculator valve. It may be something worse, like a bad injector, but the OBD 2 scan codes will tell what the computer knows.
BMW 318i are actually not too hard to replace the sensors on by yourself, but you can consult a shop if you feel more confident to let them do it.

1997 ford escort where is the egr located


For 1997 Ford Escort 2.0L MFI SOHC SPI 4cyl the EGR Valve is located under hood, center, upper engine area, mounted on top rear of engine block.

you definitley seem to be getting oil in your combustiion chamber, pull your spark plugs and see if they are coverd in oil. if so your valve seals are bad, if not your piston rings are bad. As far as the kncking noise its hard to tell though a description, id have to hear it, but ill go out on a limb and say its in relation to the leak it could be a piston or valve knock. The garage heard the noise, ididnt so i hope i could help.

1998 Chevy Truck 1/2 ton 350 engine. Trouble codes P0404, P0405 and P1404. I replaced the EGR valve. Now I get t/c P0404 and P0405. Now what should I check?


404 is exhaust gas recirculation circuit, and 405 is exhaust gas recirculation sensor circuit low. EGR sensor or ground?

Idle problem


Try to disconnect the Air Flow Meter. It is the first plug just before the air filter/air intake box. If this improves your situation you will need to source a new or aftermarket Air Flow Meter.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Is the main problem here. the other code P0118 may be a bad temprature sensor or your thermostate needs to be changed. Last it could be a weak water pump. 

So what is an EGR system and how does it work? EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation, and as its name implies, this system allows exhaust gasses from your car to be re-circulated into the engine, helping to reduce emissions. These systems are mostly comprised of the EGR valve, a DPFE (Delta Pressure Feedback EGR) sensor, hoses, a vacuum regulator, some vacuum lines, wiring, the computer and the exhaust tube leading to the valve itself. 
The car's wiring can be tested in the normal fashion by looking for broken and lose wire, and all vacuum lines can be checked easily for cracks, leaks and correct routing.
The last thing i would then check is the the EGR valve, EGR vacuum regulator and DPFE sensor (or similar flow sensor).

P0400 = EGR Flow
P0325 = knock sensor (Do not ever change a knock sensor, they don't affect anything and cost $600 to replace for absolutely no gain)
P1200 = I can't find this one. I think it's injector flow
report back on what you find.
Egr flow may be plugged egr passages or a bad solenoid.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation System
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Operation The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system (Figure 1 below) recirculates a portion of the exhaust gases into the intake manifold under average vehicle driving conditions to reduce combustion temperatures and exhaust gas NOx content. The amount of exhaust gas recirculated varies according to operating conditions and will be cut completely under:
  • Engine starting condition
  • Low engine coolant temperature condition
  • Excessively high engine coolant temperature condition
  • Engine idling condition
  • High engine speed condition
  • Mass air flow sensor failure
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system on the Villager uses the exhaust gas recirculation/evaporative emission (EGR/EVAP) control solenoid valve to provide vacuum to both the EGR valve and the EVAP canister when commanded by the PCM. If the exhaust backpressure is sufficient to close the EGR backpressure transducer valve, vacuum is sent to the EGR valve and allows EGR gas to flow into the intake manifold. If the exhaust backpressure is not sufficient, the EGR backpressure transducer will remain open and allow vacuum from the EGR/EVAP control solenoid to vent to the atmosphere.
The EGR system monitor, for OBD II regulations, uses an EGR temperature sensor to monitor the EGR system. The EGR temperature sensor is a thermister located in the EGR passageway. When hot exhaust gas is recirculated into the engine, the temperature at the EGR passageway increases. This increase is sensed by the EGR temperature sensor and a signal is sent to the PCM to indicate EGR flow. If the EGR temperature sensor does not detect EGR flow when commanded by the PCM after two consecutive drive cycles, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will be illuminated and a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored. The MIL will be turned off after three consecutive drive cycles are completed with no malfunctions detected. The DTC will remain stored in the PCM memory until 80 drive cycles have been completed without the same malfunction detected in the system.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Backpressure Transducer Valve The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) backpressure transducer valve is used to control EGR. The EGR valve is operated by ported vacuum, but the ported vacuum will normally be vented off at the EGR backpressure transducer valve. As rpm increases, exhaust pressure increases and pushes on the diaphragm in the EGR backpressure transducer valve and closes the vacuum vent.

EGR/EVAP Control Solenoid The exhaust gas recirculation/evaporative emission (EGR/EVAP) control solenoid (Figure 3) is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM). The EGR/EVAP control solenoid controls vacuum to both the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve and to the evaporative (EVAP) emission canister. When the EGR/EVAP control solenoid is off (12 V signal from the PCM) vacuum is supplied to both the EGR valve and to the EVAP canister. When the EGR/EVAP control solenoid is on (ground supplied by PCM) vacuum is vented to the atmosphere keeping the EGR valve closed and no vacuum to the EVAP canister. The PCM will command the EGR/EVAP control solenoid on at:
  • Engine starting condition
  • Low engine coolant temperature condition
  • Excessively high engine coolant temperature condition
  • Engine idling condition
  • High engine speed condition
  • Mass air flow sensor failure

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor (Figure 4) is a thermister type sensor that monitors the temperature of the exhaust in the EGR passageway. As the EGR flow increases, the temperature increases. This process creates a change in the resistance of the sensor, which decreases as the temperature increases. The signal is sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) to indicate that the EGR system is working properly. If the EGR temperature sensor does not change resistance as the PCM expects on two consecutive drives, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will be illuminated and a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored.

The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve (Figure 5) recirculates portions of the exhaust gas back into the intake manifold to reduce the amount of the NOx released during combustion and to reduce combustion temperature. The amount of exhaust gases that are released into the engine is proportional to the load on the engine.
