Remove the door trim and inside at the handle you will see 2-3 nuts that hold the handle in the outer skin of the door.

you answered your own question, ease the door panel with two screwdrivers ,one either side of the plastic clip and watch for the mastic

the door panels are usually held on by clips located all around the door panel just a matter of prising them carefully with a screw driver hope this helps regards Jim

hi there undo the phillips screw inside the handle the gently slide the whole handle outer casing to the right about 1 cm, it will help if you push it into the door as you do it to give it a little bit of help the feed the whole mechanism through the hole in the panel hey presto!

SOURCE: broken passenger door handle
Same problem. I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem GL. A year ago the driver's door handle broke. Heard a sound and then it was loose. Could not open it from outside. Had to open front passenger door, open the driver's door from inside and then go out again to enter from the driver's door. FRUSTRATING. My mechanic had to take the door apart to fix it. Just a week ago, my front passenger door died on me. Can't open it from outside nor inside. The door won't open. This is such a stupid problem that costs lots to repair. Never will buy a Suzuki again. Had too many problems with it (had to fix gas tank, doors that won't open, front axle...).

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can remove the inner door handle and replace with new one. If it's your outer door handle, pull back the weather seal and disconnect the linkage to the outer door handle and then remove the bolts securing the outer handle to the door
