Question about 1995 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Where's the main relay of accord 1995 located?

My accord won't start after under the hot sun, and start after it cools down.
They say it's the main relay that needs to be replaced. Aside from this problem the car's is fine.

a common problem with this year accord was the main relay. they have bad solder joints so when they heat up, the solder joints didn't make good contact, and you have a d4 blinking and no starting problem.

above is a link on how to locate and remove the main relay, and if money is an issue, use a soldering iron to do the link below because a new main relay is around 50 dollars. its a video to resolder the joints on a main relay of a honda civic, but the same concept applies.

I just failed smog and the technician said that it was either the EGR valve or the catalytic converter that caused it to fail. at the same time when i let the car sit in the outdoors at work in the sun...

Have your main power relay replaced. It's what is causing your hard start, after the car is hot, especially sitting in the sun. It's located under the driver's side dash. As for the reason why you failed smog, could be the two you listed.

92 honda accord lx it will start when it is cool outside but when it is hot it will not start. have already replaced distributor, coil, main engine relay switch. Can u tell me what else it could be ?...

I had the same issue happening with my 92 accord lx. I replaced the main relay and the issue was resolved... Was it the relay under the dash and hidden by the cruise control box you replaced? It is located under the drivers side dash, tucked WAY up there behind the cruise control box. This relay controls both the spark delivery AND the fuel pump.

If this IS what you replaced, it is more than likely still an electrical issue since the syptom only occurs when it is hot. This means an electrical connection is expanding and not connecting when it is hot. If the relay was replaced, it is possible the ECU may be having issues.

there's a main relay or fuel pump relay located under the dash on driver's side. this relay goes bad all the times. it usually goes bad when you leave the car in a hot sun, next time keep your window down to see if it will start.

The problem is the Main Relay. This is the result of the poor solder application from factory.

The solution desolder the inadequate terminals and the faulty terminals and resolder them.

Everething is well explained on this site...www.techauto.awardspace.com/mainrelay.html

Good luck

Car will not start when hot, D4 light is flashing, car will start

go to http://autorepair.about.com/od/enginetroubleshootin1/a/honda_hot_start.htm.
to see if that is the problem, if it is, Partsgeek.com has the part, and HondaPartsDeal.com has manual diagrams that may help you find where the part is located on your vehicle. I recently replaced mine and I have no start problems now.

Car wont start

I had a problem with a 1991 Honda Accord and the fix was a weird one. My car would run fine and start fine if it was cold outside. If I left my car in the sun and the interior got hot, my car wouldn't start.

(Since you drove to San Diego this may be the problem)

I found out that if I left my windows open and let the inside of the car cool down, it would start. Strange.....

Apparently, there is a main relay box under the steering wheel that triggers the starter motor and fuel injection. In the Honda's made around 1991, the contacts in that box would expand and would not let the electricity flow.

I guess you can repair the relay box, but replacing it might be a better bet ($50). I took my car to three different mechanics before any of them had heard of this problem.

The fix was simple, but the problem was hard to diagnose.
