Question about 1999 Isuzu Trooper
No indications what-so-ever of alternator going out drove car , parked car, 10 min. later, no start. jumper box started car rite away, could it be possible for alternator to go like that
It is possible for a altenator to go like that , how ever it ould be the battery has failed as well. the best way to diagnose a charging or electrial issue is with the use of a simple multimeter. set the multimeter to the 20v dc scale with no engine running put the red probe to the positive of the battery and the black to the negative terminal the multimeter should read some where over 12v consider the car isn't running so the altenator at this stage is doing nothing. start the vehicle in park or neutral with hand brake on and peform the same procedure. ideal voltage with engine running would be 13.6 to 14.5 with no head lights on . this is a very simple test to establish if the altenator is in fact at the cause of the problem, if the altenator is operating in that range it is fair to say it is working fine. if the voltage is reading over and high 15v the voltage regulator has packed it in and now the battery is at risk of being cooked from over charging, there are a lot more complexed tests that can be peformed but this should get the answer of whats going on. hope you find this helpful.

Try pushing in the key while turning the wheel either way. And jiggling it. This happens because the steering locks for the car's protection. If we park it with the wheels turned, it locks in that position. If that does not work, you may have to call a good mechanic to help you.

No, but what I would do is buy a used computer or borrow one from somebody to see if that is the problem before you buy one from the dealer. they are expensive, used about $100. A couple of things would cause the car to stop, one, dead battery, bad alternator, but the light should have come on, the battery light would have come on too. But the car will not run without them. The injectors, I don't know that much about diesels, but, I do have 3 Isuzu's.
