Question about 2000 Toyota Avalon

1 Answer

Avalon radio My Toyota Avalon stock radio has issues with locking onto Stereo FM stations. The radio acts like it is always in a fringe area of reception and is constantly blending like it is experiencing multi-path. You make a turn, the stereo separation is lost and the audio blends to mono, make another turn, the stereo separation returns. The front end RF reception seems awful. The antenna is on the rear window, Grid style diversity antenna. Anyone have the same issue and possible solutions? Clean the antenna lead connections? Did you get a new antenna? An amplifer for the antenna? Curious minds would like to know.

I would check the connections on the grid, if they are ok you have to live with yagi effect.

SOURCE: what is the wirer color diagram 1999 toyota avalon car stereo radio wiring diagram radioconstant12v+wire??

Hi Slick, From my experience working on Toyota motor vehicles, they don't use colour coding. You'll need to identify the cables with a voltmeter and an used AA or AAA battery (like those from the TV remote). First find the constant power (which keeps the memory function of the set powered. Then by a process of elimination turn on the ignition and check each of the other cables until you find the ignition switched power. Check to make sure it' switched by turning the ignition on and off. To identify the speaker cables there should be a number of white cables with black tracer lines. Take any pair (removing a little insulation from the end to leave the metal cable open) and hold one cable onto the negative end of the battery and swipe the other cable end over the positive. As you do that the cable speaker will make a popping sound, where by you can identify which speaker is attached to what set of cables. Regards John

See here p227 for the likely Toyota wiring colours. These may not be the same as in the supplied plug for a non-Toyota car stereo.

Anything special to do when changing the battery in a 2005 toyota avalon

the only problem you might have is you will lose all of your pre-set radio stations, if your radio has a security code it will not work until it is recoded, if it is coded there will be a red light blinking when the ignition is removed,if there is no light blinking it may not be coded, but it is best to connect another battery to your battery terminals before you remove them....hope this helps....cheers

I want to upgrade my stereo in my 1997 toyota avalon but don't know if I can bypass the security -it says that the radio will not work if it is removed. Does it mean the factory radio or any stereo I put...

Hi.
The 'factory' radio has the security feature built into it.

You can add any type of aftermarket radio with no problems.

Thanks for using FixYa!
