Stop and dont do that until you read the defeat AIR BAGS page.

and do what, crush the car for metal recycling?

why not ask what it does. first. (or intents, or job or problems)

why not google Airbag clock springs or read the FSM.

if you break it, it will defeat the drivers air bag. or other things.

that includes OPTIONS . like CRUISE?

here read this , from the authority. JEEP

chapter 19 page 26 !

the clock spring is what allows all Electrical signals

to magically pass through the turning steering wheel.

(picture wires stapping off, and now not , by magic.)

in the olden days, before the name, it was just horn wiper ring.

add air bags, cruise or radio controls and wow, we are talking a ton of junk. (all are OPTION variable)

Replaced intermediate steering shaft, 2007 Chevy HHR. steering wheel mow crackling, clicking when I turn it, airbag light on. steering wheel computer controls not responding. Someone said coil spring?

That would be clock spring. When the itermediate shaft was disconnected the wheel was apparently allowed to turn, and when the steering was re-connected the clock spring was too far turned one direction. You will have to have the wheels turned straight ahead when you install the new one or this will happen again. The new one will come with installation instructions, be sure to follow them.

2001 f250 airbag light came on horn won't work or cruise controls or automatic hubs won't lock. Is this all connected? It happened at the same time

The horn switch and the air bag and cruise control wiring in the steering wheel go through the clock spring, ford calls it air bag sliding contact. The clock springs have been know to go bad.

If you had the clockspring on wrong and turned it, it is damaged now and needs to be replaced. Remove it and put the steering wheel on and turn to confirm. You need to disassemble and inspect.

I have a 2001 Stratus. Airbag light stays on

That happened to me when the clock spring in the steering wheel broke. But the clock spring controls the air bags, horn and cruise control. Check if your horn and cruise control works. If not, I bet it's the clock spring from turning your wheel. It was about $150 to replace. Good luck!
