What is a 4d on dash mean

Not sure what kind of car you have, but on my Toyota Van, 4D is Drive, but it will only go up to 4th Gear. This is used for pulling hills so it doesn't keep dropping from 5th to 4th and back to 5th.

So is the 4D there when in park? When does is show up?

Hope this is helpful.

My 72 Chevy C10 has a TH 350 transmission that will not shift automatically. I have to manually shift from L1-L2-D.

Check the hose going to the modulator. If that doesn't fix it, you might want to try another modulator

My 2004 gmc envoy (automatic) seems to slip in low and second when in drive but not if I put it in L1 Or L2. If I let off gas it does shift then. what could be problem?

Could be as simple as a fluid and filter change and a linkage adjustment. Doesn`t sound serious. I woud try those two things. One at a time starting with the fluid and filter.

1997 no brake light and cannot engage drive, rev, L1,L2

Check the operation of the brake sensor switch above the brake pedal.
The 'brake applied' signal may be absent due to sticking/faulty brake switch.

I just picked up a 87 honda accord and just want to know what gear i drive it in it has l2 d3 and d4 can you help got me confused

D4 - this gear means that all four automatic gears will be able to work (1,2,3,4)
D3 - Three gears will be able to work (1,2,3)
D2 - Two gears (1,2) - L2 means the same thing
D1 - One (low) gear (1)

For your car, drive it in d4. this means that all forward gears will work, including overdrive (4th gear). It will be fine to leave your car in this gear.

Can't get low gear

if memmory serves me correct its been a while since last tranny rebuild and adjustment
on a 700-r4 type transmission
make sure that the shim kit was used properly with this transmission cause wrong sized length of linkage can make the trans. shift improperly
you have the linkage under neith adjusted wrong the shift bar on tranny should face 90 degrees up towards front of vehicle engine for proper adjustment
