Question about 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

05 tahoe oil pressure shut off car

HOWDY all, I was driving my tahoe for about two hours and it statred to run rough at idle. then when I came to a complete stop it died on me one time. The oil pressuer guage was low prior to it shutting off. It seemed like it was running a little rough from then on. But it has not dropped the pressure again. It sits at about 20 PIS at Idle. I had a problem with the guage about a month back and I replaced the oil pressure sensor and it ran fine up till now. Any ideas??? Is it worth taking to the dealer?

    It has 100000 mmiles on it and I just did the plugs and wires on it about 3000 miles ago. On htis model the only fuel filter is in the tank and the PCV is built into the valve cover so I am unable to replace them. The dealership did fix an oil leak on the top end of the engine and repalced the water pump a few monthes back.

Avoid dealers if u can-solo shops hav much bettr mechs--prbly hav a vacuum leak-listen for any hissing-car wil run normal at hiway spd--egr valves give hidden leaks and cause stallin specially at decel--throttl body cud hav issues too-along w the position sensor and idle air -may want to run a scan for a history of any codes even tho engine lite not on--thats really low miles -use synthetic oil and u get 300thou

Were there any engine noises such as a lifter tick? If it were mine I'd be installing a manual oil pressure gauge to verify what the oil pump is up to. There were issues with the oil pump pickup screen o-ring. Either way, it should be looked into.

SOURCE: Low Oil pressure light in idle at stop

Depending on the amount of miles, maintenance records, or how hard the car has been driven either by a previous owner, or by yourself. The engine's main crankshaft bearings or the connecting-rod bearings could be excessively worn.

Also, it could very well be a wiring problem to the sensor and/or computer causing the problem.

Doesnt sound at all like an electrical control issue... more like a tune up...
How many miles? If its hard to start its typically due to spark plugs being worn down with age.. that engine has individual coils per cylinder so there are no "cap, rotor or wires" involved... just replace the plugs, they are platinum and they are about 8-9$$ each x8... but that is what you need

Sounds the EGR valve and EVP sen is bad even if you tested it. The EGR valve cntrols idle and if carbon up will make the car stall or idle high and low (rpms going up and down) This was common on all cars during that time. I would say replace the EGR valve and senosr. This should take care of the problem. One more thing have the fuel pressure check on the car.

OOO not good sounds like some of the head gasket got stuck somewhere, or the gauge or sender is bad or got knocked around when repairing the head gasket. I would check that first. If that checks out will need to drop the pan to see if something got stuck in the pickup tube,might as well change the pump while you are there. Or worst case some thing wrong with gasket job impeading oil flow back to bottom of the engine. Was the oil and filter changed ?if so pull out filter and see if an chunks are stuck in it now. And change oil and filter again. Sorry that was out of order I had a long day

Bad EGR valve comes to mind here. Assuming the plugs are good, the EGR valve woiuld be what I'd look at.

run the fault codes . Check injector for clean and operating correctly. Check fuel pressure at the injectors.

My Chevy 2500, 2001 runs rough when it cold outside


It can be issue with low fuel pressure,the fuel pump is getting old both needs to be checked.Also get the IAC valve checked.

My oil and water temp and pressure flucuate when it gose from idle to driving


oil pressure is going to increase with higher RPM's ,at an idle it should be around 20psi,at running speed the oil pump is pumping faster and it could clime to 60 psi.
water temp though you should check coolant level or think about a new thermostat

Rough idle / varying oil pressure when accelerating


Ok not to keen on newer vehicles actually prefer the carburated ones, but oil pressure is supposed increase on your gauge when accelerating. If it wasn't going up before and just staying at 40 the needle might have been stuck. But idle should be 40 lbs and when you work the moter (reving or driving down the road) the guage should show an increase for every 1000 rpm above idle. Second if you can get a hand held scanner (bought mine off ebay for $30) check for any codes in your computer you will probably find that you either have a bank running wrong or some other sensor that needs to be changed. I'd go with getting my own scanner it saves alot of money and time, garages make their money here.

oil pressure drops when rpm's drop to .well..zero...so no... oil pressure is a result not a cause likely....did you overheat it ? drive it to 107mph and have the rev limiter kick in? does it start and run now ?
