If your gauge is pinned in one direction or the other and doesn't move, you could have a short. If it's in different postions or just incorrect, it's is your pump. If you do not have a new fuel pump that is AC Delco, Delphi, or Denso brand, it probably IS your pump. #1 problem with guage accuracy is this fuel pump/sending unit. Aftermarkets do not last long at ALL. It is very common for most other brands to last less than a year.

SOURCE: 2006 envoy gas gage

your gas gauge sensor is most likley the problem on alot of new cars they measure your fuel off an average of were your float is at. like if your not moving it stays in one spot but as you move the float moves and reads the lowest amout that it is averaging and if your float keeps reading low your going to read that you have alot less gas than you really do. have you tried filling the tank all the way and see what it does? if it stays at full until you use some gas and your float starts moving your gas gauge will probley go down in that case its the fuel sensor if this dont help let me know and ill c what i can find out for you

SOURCE: Fuel Sensor is not working properly

U must replace the fuel gauge sending unit to correct the problem with your gauge, the sender is located inside the fuel tank, the tank must be removed to replace the sender.

SOURCE: How do you replace a fuel pump on a 2003 gmc envoy

unfortunately you will need to drop the gas tank will need a jack and jack stands for safety reasons and some tools sockets - {deep-well} and screwdrivers and patience and hopefully a warm area and pliers ........if you decide to do this first i can give you more detailed assistance on what to expect as well as difficulty level etc.....a few hours i assure you a bit of difficulty depending upon your mechanical skill and health i know i had to have mine sent out as i could only get it 3/4 the way out and i have been an auto/body mechanic and suspension paint metal etc for over 34 years but my health issues restrict me from even the simplest of tasks at times i hope this helps you in making a decision and ...................ensure in fact it truly is the fuel pump 1st have you determined this yet ? a pressure test can be made for free from most parts stores and a few major repair franchises

2006 GMC Envoy XL gas gauge reads empty

Gas gauge readings are controlled by the sending unit on the fuel pump. I do not believe there is a separate fuse for any particular gauge. In order to fix it, you have to remove the fuel pump from the gas tank, determine if the float is stuck or the sending contacts are out of alignment or dirty. Some can be repaired, but most are not serviceable. Remedy: replace the fuel pump and sending unit assembly. I would first inspect the wiring from the fuel pump connector(s) to make sure you have good connection and wire integrity.

I think the gas gage in my 2004 GMC Envoy is reading too low. How can I tell and and what could the problem be?

most likely need a fuel level sensor
you need to remove the fuel tank then remove
remove the fuel pump module
the sensor is on the side of the fuel pump module (the float is part of the sensor)
hope this helps

I think te gas gage im my 2004 GMC Envoy is reading too low. How can I tell and and what could the problem be?

if you put any gas in the fuel tank the fuel gauge needle should move toward full mark.if not you have a faulty fuel level sending unit.its in the fuel tank attach to the fuel pump assembly.

GMC envoy after I filled gas tank the low fuel light came on and as I was driving it would go off than come back on after a few miles the check engine light come on stayed on and the low fuel light still...

You will need to replace the fuel level sensor which is in the fuel tank. They have a lot of problems because the metal fingers on the sensor wear off and gives you the incorrect readings. This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You will probably have a level sensor code. This will be a lot easier if the fuel level is down to about a quarter tank or less. Also you should be able to get just the level sensor and not have to get the complete fuel pump module.Good luck.

Gas gauge problems

Common problem on the 03-06 Envoy instrument clusters for the fuel gauge to go out. It's usually caused by one of two main problems, either the stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board is going out or the sending unit on the fuel pump is going out. Check out this blog post about the problem - Envoy fuel gauge problems

Gas gage not working, gas tank seems full but it is not

You will need to remove the fuel tank from the truck and replace the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module that is inside the fuel tank. Use extreme caution when doing this as there is a real fire hazard.
