How do i know whether to change the ignition switch or the ignition lock ( cylinder& keys) to my 2001 ford f-150

Well if the lock is turning the switch, the lock is doing its job.
Sometimes the link between the lock and the switch wears out, but thats rare.

Replace an ignition switch on an 1992 Lincoln. Town car

Im not a mechanic nor an expert but I have had my ignition switched replace. I know that u have to remove the steering wheel in order to remove the switch. Thats the only hint I have but if u need to start car ASAP I do know how to get it to start by guting out the switch and using a screw driver to start the ingine.

I have a 1999 ford f150.when i bought it they told the reason it wouldnt start was because it needed a programmed i tried to get one programmed and they told me they couldnt because the computer...

The Ignition switch could help and it is an inexpensive part to try. I would also try to get hold of a scanner and see if the computer is working and showing any problem Codes.

The recoding process is different even within the same Manufacturer. Usually you have a Coded key and insert it into the Ignition, then remove it and turn the Ignition 4 times or hit the Doorlock button 4 times and insert the blank key. The Ignition imprints the blank with the computer access code.

A bad Ignition switch would prevent the Codes from going through the key. But you may have to use a Vin# if you do not have a Coded key to duplicate and you will need to go through a Dealer.

Remove steering wheel and steering column in 1992 acura legend

first , as you try to turn on the ignition , move the steering back and forth to release the pressure on the lock tab on the steering shaft
next you will have to install a safety pin to stop the air bag going off
there are 4 bots that hold the lock assembly onto the shaft but you will need a grinder to get the bolts out as they have no heads
it is easier to remove the steering column complete from the car to replace the switch
it is not really a diy job unless you have a workshop manual and some mechanical experience
