Question about 1994 Jaguar XJ6

1994 Jaguar XJ6 suddenly will not start after washing car

Yesterday morning I drove my car out of the carport into the driveway and washed it. After washing the car I drove it back into the carport. An hour or so later, I added water to the windshield wiper fluid container under hood because it was low. I turned the car on again to make sure the amber "low windshield wiper fluid" light was off and it was. About an hour after that, I got in the car to drive it and it would not start. The AAA guy could not jump start the car, all the fuses looked good, I pressed the reset button on the inertia switch, and it still doesn't start. There is an interesting headlight behavior that accompanies this problem that may be a clue as to what the problem is: When I turn the headlight switch on, the lights don't go on. But when I try to start the car, the headlights will turn on and remain on only if the key is in the "engine on" position. When I move the key out of that position and take the key out, the headlights turn off, but the headlight switch still thinks they are on. So when I open the driver's side door, I hear the beeping noise that is a reminder to turn the headlights off and then it stops when I turn the headlight switch off. Meanwhile, the interior lights work normally. I think there is an easy solution to this, maybe detach then reattach the battery 10 minutes later to reset the electrical system? Please help!!!! Thank you.

The problem has been solved. It was the starter as well as the electrical connection to the starter from the firewall. Took the starter out and it would not rotate correctly. Pushed it around with a screwdriver, hooked the battery back up to it and it started functioning normally. Something was stuck in the starter and the act of sticking a screwdriver in it cleared it out. Put the starter back in the car and again no turnover. The connection from the firewall was loose. Tightened that up and now the car runs fine. I guess it was just one of those freaky things that can happen to anyone for no apparent reason.

    Something similar happens to me.....
It turns out that wire going into the ignition coil an dleading to the distributor cap works its way
out of the coil...not completely but just enough to not start....
I have since opened slightly the end metal contact point on that wire at the coil
and on the cap and no problems since....
Worth a try and a look as a simple and cheap solution.

Xj6 1994 won't start

Check battery voltage and strength first. The computer needa bout 10 volts to get the car started. My battery went low when I had stored my 94 jag and I went to start it. It turned over but didn't start. Because of this it flooded it too. So I took out the battery to charge it and pulled the plugs to clean them of excess fuel. It started right away after this but blew white smoke for about 5 minutes. I thing the fuel soaked the converters. Hope this helps.

you have bad valve seals again and it is possible that the valve guides are bad ( to much play ) i worked for Jaguar 13 years and i have done 100's of these and very few needed guides it sound like the seals where not done correctly at the last repair.
