These trucks have a history of epg valve problems . Sure sign is thick black smoke , Also you are suppose to drain water from filter case with a 6mm Allen wrench . Its on frame rail under drive seat . That filter is often over looked to . If the water hasn't been drained every month it destroys the injectors . My bet is the fuel filters . One filter underneath an one on top of motor .

SOURCE: With my 2004 Ford 6.0 liter when pulling a hill

sound like engine getting hot when you pull a heavy load going up hills. when putting load on a engine it will over heat and will lose power because it inhales less air by volume.make sure your air filter is not clogged.a diesel engine needs a good air flow or breathe the air filter need to clean.also a restricted exhaust.if you have a restricted air filter and exhaust system the turbo not going to work good.also check coolant fan clutch.if you turn it by hand and it free wheel fan clutch needs to be replaced.if cooling fan clutch has resistance then its good.a bad coolant fan clutch will cause engine to over heat.

I have a 2005 KIA sedona. And when driving it sounds like it has a turbo. It also has no umph.instead it loses power going up hill. while the turbo sound it hesitate to shift gear.

Yours should be a 2.9 crd Turbo diesel if I'm correct & from what your describing sounds like you need to change out the diesel filter. These filters get clogged causing lack of power specially going up hill.
Is it blowing out black smoke? There could be other problems as well. Need more info like is the engine light on?

2006 F 350 6.0 diesel hesitates, stutters when giving fuel around 1800 to 2400 rpm.

This problem is caused by a MAF sensor or even a clogged file pressure rail check both and if those aren't your problems then it could be bad diesel or your idle control is bad check all of the above and replace all if possible

There's many reasons this can happen, but start simple. Fuel pump may be failing. Usually under load they can not supply the fuel the engine is demanding. (Up hill acceleration is a classic example). change the fuel filter first, if that doesn't not correct the problem, test fuel system pressure. (:

1990 model hilux very gutless going up hills is a 2.8 diesel

Actually a 2.8 diesel should be fairly weak on hills, especially if this is an automatic transmission.
You could check the fuel filter, or change to lower profile tires that give more power, but really turbo charging is the best way to really get lots of power out of such a small diesel.
Diesels not only have less hp then petrol engines, but also a narrower torque range.

diesel engines have loads of pulling power(towing/loaded)but you need to use the gears to keep the revs at peak torque.1st is a crawler gear(very low ratio).put car in 3rd going down steep hills saves the gearbox overheating.....

My 2006 Dodge Magnum hesitates sometimes while in

I had the same problem. I replaced the crank shaft position sensor and it solved my problem. It would stall at intersections and while under light acceleration. It also caused loss of cruise control and a stutter when at highway speeds. Replaced crank sensor and its been running solid for 5,000 miles. $125 fix self installed.

While traveling engine will hesitate, ****, lose power

Check the least expensive first. Check the fuel filters first and replace them if they are plugged. Most likely it is the fuel pump. A shop can check the fuel pump pressure at the fuel rail on the engine under the hood. If the filter or filters were checked first then a low pressure would indicate that the pump is weak and needs replaced.
