Sounds Like A possible Ground Problem,
/Or you may need to replace the Sending unit completely,
If the Later is the Case then Replace Fuel Pump and Fuel filter @ same time to reduce Possible Problems in the near Future

SOURCE: Fuel gauge issues

Sounds like you've got a defective fuel level sending unit. It's in your tank, probably attached to the boost pump assembly. Normally the top of the tank can be accessed via the trunk where you should be able to remove the assembly for replacement. While you're in there, look around in the tank with a very bright flashlight for any debris or pieces from the assembly laying on the bottom.

Horrible gas mileage can be caused by very many things. Try to buy an OBDII diagnostic scanner to figure out what's malfunctioning. Sensors don't last very long, and can wreak havoc on performance and economy.

there is a float in your gas tank kinda like the float in your toilet. Sometimes they stick and if the bell goes off then back.. it prob. from the gas splashing in the tank. I wouldnt' be concerned too much.

Gas gage isnt right it keeps floating

The Sorento gs tank is under the floor in the back seat. Flip the seat bottom's forward and pull open the Velcro to access the top of the tank. The fuel pump and sender may be accessible from the top, but you might be unlucky and have t remove the tank.

Gas guage moves back and forth from emty to full with gas in it

it sounds like the level sensor on the sender (fuel pick up pipe in the fuel tank) is getting stuck. the level sensor is a float that is attached to the sender, and you will need to remove the fuel tank to get to it.

hope this helps.

Fuel level sensor in tank bad????

Yes it is all one unit, and yes that is what the problem is. don't use aftermarket parts, use OEM, (Delco Remy) they are much better quality.
