Question about 1993 GMC Sierra K1500
Starts right up and then after about 30 seconds the rpm's go wild and once its warm it levels out until its put in gear and the idle drops down around 200 if you turn the steering wheel either direction while in gear it normally stalls and sometimes while idling at a stop light
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

check for codes. If no codes are stored then maybe the idle air control valve is bad, or the air cleaner clamps are loose.. If the clamps were loose or a vacuum hose fell off you should have a code stored. If the IAC is bad it usually will not set a code.

This could be a number of things but i think that your problem sounds like a vacuum leak or an EGR problem. Try listening for leaks and try un-plugging the EGR solenoid valve one time.

SOURCE: 98 GMC k2500 7.4L Rouch Idle
TRY THIS BEFORE U SPEND ANYMORE MONEY N PARTS.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

check your vaucumn hoses for leaks any leak in that system will effect your fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail that controls the running ability
