Question about 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

2002 3.3 timing chain inspection

Is there a top inspection hole or view for the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Timing Chain? Everything looks tight inside the oil pan but I want to be sure it is on the top too.

Ok Thanks to both of you! do either o you have a sequence for removing the timing cover as well as a diagram? It appears that at best, it will still be quite a pain. Thanks

I suggest that you get a workshop manual ( aftermarket will do ) and study the procedure first as that will reduce the pain and the risk of doing something wrong

Top and bottom will be tight but you need to check the chain guides and the chain tensioner. To properly inspect you may have to remove an inspection hole in the cover or remove the timing cover altogether

this engine has a timing chain so cover removal is required to check chiin and timing marks. The oil pan will have to come off first due to oil pick-up tube being attached to timing cover. Just done one -lots of fun!!!!

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee timing belt/chain replacement (not 4WD)

I BELIEVE THAT IT HAS A TIMING CHAIN. IT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT OR ABOUT 100,000 MILE. BUT IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY NEED TO BE CHANGED THEN, JUST INSPECTED.

It is true that this engine DOES in fact have a timing chain. The 3.0L uses a timing belt, which has to be replaced at regular intervals. Typically, the 3.3 & 3.8, which both use a timing chain, don't have to be replaced nearly as often but still requires replacement once they have "stretched" beyond their normal working limits. The timing chain cover must be removed to inspect or replace this part. Typically, timing chain kits (comes w/ crank & cam gears) are sold at local auto parts stores.
