Thermostat problem.... if you replaced the water pump any part's that were in the pump with get stuck some were ells you did flush out the system after you fitted the pump. also depending on the pump that was fitted before there are 2 types plastic and metal plastic ones brake off. check the thermostat only thing at the moment stopping your engine from blowing a water line is being on the move.

I have a 1983 Ford F150 V6 4.9l It started overheating when idling as long as I was driving it stayed cool but stopping for any length of time it overheated Now, overheats driving

sounds like water pump is gone at first over heated at idle but if raised RPM was able to push coolant and not does it all the time try water pump and thermostat.

Car running hot

the water coming out of the front would be from the water pump, it also would be an indication that the pump is bad, which may have been the reason of why the car overheated in the first place.

Overheated when I drove up a hill. Stopped overheating when at Idle or waiting at stop light. There is coolant in the reservoir. Is this a stuck thermostadt? Kurt

Usually this is caused by a faulty water pump. Try replacing the drive belt first & see if that cures it. If not do a flush and fill replacing the thermostat at the same time. Cheap maintenance and should be done every 50k miles.

Overheating Engine

your low on coolant. if you just worked on cooling system i.e. replaced hoses or water pump there is a air bubble trapped in it. You need to burp the air out at cap or stat or both. water pump, can't pump air so when you drive the coolant moves away from pump. IF it over heats while idling not moving you prob. have a bad fan. Think they are electric on this car.

When it gets hot feel the 2 pipes comming out the radiator.if both are hot then the visco fan is not working.if only one is hot and other warm then the thermostat or water pump is not working
