Question about 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Open Question

Same issue with 01 Chrysler T&C stuck in 2nd gear.

Speedo is working.
Codes are P0700 (TCM failure or short/open circuit in TCM)
P0605 (TCM ROM fault. ROM selftest fail. Shorted solenoid or sensor. Shorted circuit. Failed TCM)

Took it to a Chrysler mech and he was getting 0 degrees from the transmission. He believes the TCM is fine, but there's a short or loose connection to it, giving a bad reading from the computer.

I need a schematic or something that shows the connections to the TCM, where the TCM is in the engine compartment, so I can trace out the connections and check for loose or corroded wiring.

ANY help would be great. Thanks for your time.

SOURCE: Transmission Problems

code P0700 means that there is a code in the trans controller. P0605 means there is an internal failure in the trans controller that can not be repaired. The only step in checking this code is replacing the trans controller. The controller is not the solenoid pack . Its the actual transmission computer.

Transmission Control module; It is monitored when the ignition key is on. In short, the software has failed and does not match a calculated value. This is an internal fault that requires TCM replacement.

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. P0460 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit Description: The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the fuel level input (FLI) circuit for electrical failure. The test fails when the signal moves outside the minimum or maximum allowable calibrated parameters for a specified fuel fill percentage in the fuel tank. Possible Causes:
  • Empty fuel tank
  • Fuel pump (FP) module concern
  • Incorrectly installed fuel gauge
  • Damaged instrument cluster
  • CASE GND circuit open
  • FLI shorted to VPWR
  • Overfilled fuel tank
  • Damaged fuel gauge
  • FLI circuit open
  • FLI circuit shorted to CASE GND or PWR GND
  • CSE GND shorted to VPWR
  • Damaged PCM
Diagnostic Aids: Monitor the FLI and FLI V PIDs in key ON, engine running. A concern is present if the FLI PID is at 25% fill and the FLI V PID is less than 0.90 volt with a non-matching fuel gauge or the FLI PID is at 75% fill and the FLI V PID is greater than 2.45 volts with a non-matching fuel gauge. Application Key On Engine Off Key On Engine Running Continuous Memory Ranger GO to Pinpoint Test HX . All others Refer to the Workshop Manual Section 413-01, Instrument Cluster for fuel level indicator diagnosis.
Your best bet would be to take it to a Ford dealer ,

P0700 (M)
Check Transmission DTC's
This code indicates that the EATX (Transmission controller) has an active fault and has illuminated the MIL via a BUS message. The specific fault must be acquired from the EATX via a DRBIII tool. (Input or Output Speed Sensor failures often cause this code and are a common failure part on WJ Grand Cherokees

P0750
Shift Solenoid circuit.
Note: If code P1767 (Transmission Relay Always On) is also present: Replace transmission solenoid assembly. See note provided. When transmission is in limp mode the relay that provides power to the solenoid group is switched off. This is normal and is designed to provide operation in one gear only. Engineering department suggests to replace transmission solenoid assembly anytime these two trouble codes occur together. See applicable service manual section (21) for solenoid assembly replacement directions. IMPORTANT: When performing this repair always check torque on all valvebody accumulator cover plate screws. Proper torque specification is 70 inch pounds. If any accumulator cover plate screws are damaged or missing replace the valvebody assembly. NOTE: If any other trouble codes are present do not replace solenoid assembly. See test in the applicable Transmission Diagnostic Procedures Manual

P0755

Error Codes P0700 and P0605

0605 is for an Internal Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error. This is typical of a malfunctioning computer. If the computer is bad, your retrieved codes are probably wrong anyway. May need to replace computer, drive, then see if if your check engine light returns.
