My trunk won't pop open when I lift the trunk release lever
When I pull up on the trunk lever next to the drivers seat, the trunk does release (with another person pulling up on it) but there is no spring action that lifts the trunk away from the latch. I've looked in the trunk and see the two bars running horizontally to each trunk hinge. My question is, how do I adjust the bars or make it so the trunk pops open when I pull on the lever?
Re: My trunk won't pop open when I lift the trunk release...
You can adjust the tension by moving one or both bars. on one end it should sit in one of three notches. I have moved mine by hand but you may need a screwdriver or pry bar on some cars. also depending on the car, you may want to put something to protect your rear window. As some have alot of tension and may spring out, and hit the window. Just try different positions till you get your desired effect. And a last note sometimes the bars become bent or really weak from use. And may require to be replaced. If so then they can be ordered from the dealer.

someone moved the switch in the or should i say on the trunk lock itself to disable the trunk release from inside, SO...
Bottom of seat where your Butt goes, Has to be pushed hard to the rear bumber from the front on both side driver and passenger in the rear to disengage the rear catch then the rear seat comes up,
Next you should see 2 screws at the bottom of the back rest remove them and lift the back out, then your going to need a long screw driver or extensions for ratchet to unbolt the lock from the inside and that should be that,? Have fun.
It's right below the drivers seat you can't miss it. There's a button on the trunk where you put your key to open it on the inside just turn it to on . Then go to your seat and lift it up the little lever it should open it .
I don't know about your 1995 Ford Taurus, BUT I found that when the rear driver side seat was loosened, there were several cables running alongside the driverside rear (underneath the seat and connecting bolt). Pull gently on the cables...you will find one of them is the trunk release cable(which pops oopen the trunk). And lo....there were my keys inside the trunk. Took 5 minutes to take apart and put together. Good Luck.
i am talking from memory,and i may be wrong........but
look under the front base of the rear seats, you should find 2x screws, undo these and lift the seat squab up and frontwards out the flat possition then you will be able to find the screws that hold the backrest in possition and remove....
By switching the lever you locked the inside trunk release, you will need to put lever back. as far as the trunk you may need to remove the rear seat, pop lower part out and then remove the bolts to the top half of the seat then try to reach the lever so it will open from the inside. i've found that many of these cars with the pop lever inside have sticking trunk locks from not being used, what you do first is spary lock good, with wd40 or pb blaster then slide key in and out and try to turn this may take a whhile but it works then tumbler will free up, you just have to keep spraying inside lock and working the key.
My 05 Corolla trunk would not open. I used a broom handle shoved between the rear seats to activate the emergency release handle on the back of the trunk lid. It took about 2 minutes. When I tapped it just right the lid popped open. This was better the damaging the rear seat by bending it to reach the seat releass mechanism. It turned out that the cable came off in the asembly probably from slamming the lid shut. Once the cable was returned to its location I used needle nose pliers to sqeeze the metal tighter around the cable.
There should be a yellow lever inside the trunk near the back seat that you can pull. You will need to lower the back of the back seat, and stick your head in there and look up. Pull the yellow emergency lever and the trunk should open. It is mandatory to have one in case a child accidently locks themselves in the trunk. Once you get the trunk open, make sure the valet switch near the trunk latch didn't inadvertently get depressed. It should be either on the decklid on the latch or in the trunk itself below or next to the latch reciever. it should be a slide type switch that you can lift up or press down. Also make sure the trunk lock out button inside the glove box didn't accidently get pressed. Hope this helps
I have a corolla 2003 and I had the same problem. I turned the key to the left and the lock turned left, engaging the valet parking mechanism. I could not turn the key to the right and could not get access to the trunk because the lever next to the driver seat was disengaged.
The way I solved this problem is as follow:on the back driver seat I pulled the back seat forward to leave an opening and snick my arm in the trunck. Then I grabbed the cable used to latch the seat and I pulled forward, i.e. toward the front of the car. The cable is connectred to the trunck so that it can be disconnected easily if pulled towards the front. If you pull towards the back it will remain attached to the trunck. So grab the cable an pull towards the front, and it will release itself. Since the cable is flexible, you can pull it out of the trunk from the same the opening you put your arm, and then disenagage the driver back seat. Fold forward the back seat and get into the trunk and use the lever in the latch of the trunck to open it. The turnk will open.
If the lock does not turn, you need to disconnect the lock from the mechanism, so that the driver seat lever can start working again. To do this, and with the trunk open, remove the cover holded by nine plastic pins. Do not break the pins. After removing the cover, you will see the lock holded by two nuts. Remove the nuts with a rachet. The lock will be loose, and disconnect the lever that connects the lock to the latch. At this point the driver seat lever will start working again. Close the trunk and verify that the driver seat lever opens the trunk. Now you can open and close the trunk , and have time to call the dealer for a new lock.
