1993 geo metro timeing is off

Get a strobe timing light, hook the aligator clamps to the battery and the C clamp to the #1 spark plug wire. This makes the lamp flash every time #1 plug fires. Point it at the main pully and you should see it flash and light up a mark on the pully. If you see no mark, stop the engine and look for it. Paint it white with some correction fluid, then try again. You will also need to loosen your distributor, which has two bolts holding it tight. You can tell which bolts as they have elongated holes to allow you to adjust timing. Once you see the white timing marks, (with engine warmed up) rotate the loosened distributor until the mark lines up with the 5 or 6 on the plastic timing belt cover near the pulley. This would put your timing 5 or 6 degrees advanced. I think factory is 5.5, so this should be close.

I'am trying to set the timing for a 96 mit.eclipse

you have to line up all 3 of your tjmjng marks. Is your engine single head or double overhead cams The marks have to line up.Firstyou have to remove the belt. Then remove harmonic balancer to get to the timing gear sprocket. It has a blade attached to it with 3 fins in between the fins is a little dip that is the crankshaft position.align that dip with the mark below the crankshaft position sensor.then you have to do the same with your camshafts. Then replace the belt and spin the the crankshaft clockwise to the aligment mark they should all stop on their marks.

The timing belt on my 94 2.3L Ford Ranger broke, I have replaced but don't know how to set tming

The timiing is set by aliging the timing marks on the cam with the timing marks on the crank -- then the belt goes on.

It's been a while since I've done a Mitzi. Main belt on crankshaft pulley (should be the biggest) another belt for power steer / A/C - tensioner ok? Although that wouldn't make it run like a old dog. Should be straight forward, locate each of the marks all in line with --> & ....t's. Have you done a timing light check? Good luck hope that adds a little more to think about.

Engine misfire

The computer will take time to learn the new pattern. The computer is what actually controls the timing and when the system has been reset, the computer has to relearn. Can take up to 20 starting times.
