Question about 1999 Lexus LS 400

Shifter console removal

I apologize if this question shows up twice, don't know what I did to loose it a min ago... Last night I accidentally dropped a Micro SD card (16 gig for my dash cam, which does me no good if it can't record) in the indent where the shifter meets the console. I tried to get a hold of it and ended up shoving it to one side and it disappeared! How do I get the console out to try and retrieve the card? Please HELP!!

I had a similar problem in a GMC truck. After being stumped by the console fastener system, I used a flexible camera to locate the dropped item and a "fishing tool" to remove it.

Testimonial: "That's pretty ingenious! However, I don't have anything like that and not sure if I would be able to get it in anywhere if I came across a flexible camera. But thank you very much!"

Car wont shift out of park or into park easily

You mention the knob on the shifter is loose. Do you remember if the knob has always been loose or is this recent? I ask because I thought there was a button to push or a lever to lift to move the shifter into or out of R and P. So that you might not accidentally push the shifter into either of those settings and possibly damage the mechanism. If there is a lever or button, it might be that the button or lever doesn't fully disengage when you press it BECAUSE the knob on the shifter is loose. You might need to tighten the knob. Might need hex keys / Allen keys or small screwdrivers to tighten the knob. good luck.

No light on the shifter can't see at night if itsin drive on a 2005 toyota corolla i need instruction how to get to the bulb

remove the center console and you will see the bulb under the shift panel. To remove the console you need to open the lid and remove the pad on the bottom, remove two screw on the inside, remove four screw on the side and top of the console, pull parking brake and slide the console up and back. Some console have electrical plugs!! Disconnect the plugs before removing all the way. On the left side of the shifter is small black socket, turn left and pull down to remove. Replace the bulb and install in reverse order
Good Luck

Gear shift is stuck in park, but clicks when the brake is pressed 2005 Pacifica

This happened to my mother in loves car last night. There is a second lever under the shift cover that has a spring to allow it to go back. This was broke. Must be a common problem because dealership has a kit for $7.95. Comes with instructions. Pretty easy fix. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, small flathead to release some clips, and a #10 socket. You have to remove the shifter, but don't let that scare you, only 4 bolts. Took me about an hour to take out the center console and shifter and reassemble, but I found over $1 in change! Mopar part on part bag was 1-68088259AB. Called Shifter Interlock Lever Replacement. Instruction sheet also says this applies to the 2005-2007 300, charger, and Magnum so they must all have the problem. Good Luck!

2000 montero sport will not start,or turnover sometimes until you shift shifter. act,s like battery is dead until shifter is moved.

There is a switch at the base of your shifter that prevents starting when transmission is in gear. Your switch is loose or broken. Remove console to access switch for repair. If you have questions, please let us know.

Where is neutral safty switch on 83 camaro z/28

Neutral Park/BackUp Lights Switch - REPLACEMENT & ADJUSTMENT
  1. Remove the console trim from the console.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch.
  3. Remove the 2 attaching screws from the switch and remove the switch.
  1. To install a new switch:
    1. Place the switch onto the transmission control shifter and loosely install the attaching screws. Position the transmission control shifter assembly in the N notch in the detent plate.
    2. Assemble the switch to the transmission control shifter assembly by inserting the carrier tang into the hole in the shifter lever.
    3. Install the attaching screws and tighten.
    4. Move the transmission control shifter assembly out of N position. This will shear the switch internal plastic pin.

  2. To install the original switch:
    1. Place the switch onto the transmission control shifter and loosely install the attaching screws. Position the transmission control shifter assembly in the N notch in the detent plate.
    2. Rotate the switch on the shifter assembly to align the service adjustment hole with the carrier tang hole. Insert a 3 / 32 in. (2.38mm) diameter gauge pin to a depth of 9 / 16 in. (15mm) and tighten attaching screws.
    3. Remove the gauge pin.

  3. Connect the electrical connector to the switch.
  4. Install the console trim to the console.

I need to remove the center console from my '04 GMC Envoy. my gear shifter slipped into Park, my dash shows drive but it is in Neutral. My brake pedal is locked as well and can not start car so trying to...

it sounds like your shifter cable came loose. the end piece came out that connects to your transmission. you will have to jack up the car and manually shift it back to park and then either replace your shifter cable which is 85$ or so just for parts or use a shifter cable replacement kit which runs for about 20 bucks online. http://www.atfspeed.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=21&zenid=g5830qsioo71fb0bsjtjne2cs6 the cable will only be sold by a dealer
