How do ii disengage 4 locked 4wd..

Hi Rick:
Depending on the vehicle, there may be externally locking (warn) hubs on the front wheels. These have to be manually dis-engaged at the wheel hubs by rotating a fitting at the center of the hub. Otherwise, there should be a shift lever or switch inside the vehicle that will dis-engage the 4WD

How does the vacume lines engage the four wheel drive in a 89 wrangler

the line dont really engage the the transfer case, the engage the half shaft on the frount axel. the passenger side axel on the frount. theres a small box on the tube, inside is an actuator and a pikle fork that slides a ring onto the half shaft to engage the frount axel. this is done to improve turnig radus in 2 wd. the actuator goes out or gets stuck. you can check the lines and all that but on my jeep i removed the cover and used zip ties on the actuator rod to prevent it from disengaging. lost a little bit of turning but gained my 4wd back. for free. there are kits that replace this vacume system with a cable system but there expensive. just remeber jeep can stand for two things. Just Empty Every Poket or Just Enough Essental Parts. good luck and good wheeling

2002 GMC Z71 WHEN PUTTING INTO 4WD YOU CAN HEAR TRANSFER CASE LOCKING BUT FRONT TIRES WILL NOT TURN.

Hello tmaxx31190
Start by checking fuse #7 a 15amp fuse in the fuse block under the left side of the dash. This fuse is for the accuator motor on top of the left front axel tube. The accuator moter engages and
disengages the front axel for 4wd and 2wd. If the fuse is good, have someone operate the switch
and check to see if the accuator is working, you should be able to hear it engage or disengage.
If it's not working check the connections and for power at the accuator before possibly changing it.
If the accuator is working, it could be a problem with the shift fork inside the differential. Also, have
someone start the truck and engage the 4x4 then look to be sure the output shaft from transfer case to the front axel is turning. The safest way to do this is to have all 4 wheels up on jack stands.
Hope this is helpful.

1987 2.8 S10 pickup; wont engage in 4WD. drive. The vacuum canister dose not move . Dose the vacuum line go right to the shifter? And is there any type of relay involved? Or fuse ,or anything else?

There is a vacum actuator on the right side inner fender or under the battery box. Vacum line in one end, that operates a cable on the other end. This
cable engages and disengages the front axel.
Hope this helps.

Not kicking into 4 wheel drive

Check to see if the front drive shaft is turning. If it is and the wheels are
not moving. Check the vacum actuator, located under the battery pan.
Make sure there are no leaks or kinks in the lines, do the same at the vacum solenoid valve. If these check out. Check the clutch cable from
the actuator to the front axel. Make sure it's not broken or kinked, as
the cable engages and disengages the front axel. But if the front drive
shaft is turning. And it's an electric shift control check the fuse first.
If it is transfer case related I will need to know whether it's manual or electric shift. You can get back to us with that info if neccesery.
Or if you find a problem with any of the parts I have mentioned.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

95 s10 and can not get it to dis engage out of 4 low

Replace the electronic controller on the front axle. Should be located toward the passenger side on the top of the axle housing. This part engages (locks) the axles, and disengages( unlocks) the axles. There is no other way to disengage your 4x.

What is the procedure for engaging a 92 ford f-250' 4x4 ?

First thing to do is engage the lock out hubs on the front axels if it has them, they should say "free" or "lock". Turn them to lock. Then inside the cab on the floor hump will be the 2H 4H N 2L slector. Pull the slector lever into 4H and you are in 4WD high range. Do not drive the truck in 4WD on dry pavement, only gravel/dirt or snow. The minor difference between the front and rear wheel speeds will "wrap up" the driveline and make it hard to pull the lever out of 4WD. It is recommended that you back the truck up at least 10 feet after you remove it from 4WD to "unwrap" the drivelines. Your choice as to disengaging the front hubs, but it will save wear and tear on the front axels and dirveshaft if you disengage.

4 wheel drive light is on in my jeep

vacumn pod on the front axel is stuck on. Jack up the front wheels spin both tires at the same time and see if the front drive shaft turns. If it does the 4x4 on the axel is engaged. The front drive shaft on these should not turn when vacumn pod is disengaged. YJ's have a split axel on the right side inner axel shaft.
