Well the way you can tell is by looking at the ignition coils or the bottom of the spark plugs if they are single spit fire then it will only have one metal tab or if it's got two plugs in one spot otherwise it might possibly two wires or coils in one plug sometimes it might have single coils or plugs and two metal tabs on the bottom of the plugs check the amounts of cylinders or leiters to see what maybe required

I drive a 1988 toyota conquest 2e. I recently overhauled the engin an put in a new carb, petrol pump, coil and condenser but when I drive the car just shuts off. It takes about 20minutes to start

check the voltage of the new coil
if it is a due voltage (12 volt --7.5 volts ) then when it is running and there is a resistor or lack of resistor in the run wire to the coil, the coil may be overheating and breaking down
check in your workshop manual what the correct voltage coil is for your car ( single 12 vots or duel voltage )I suspect that your new coil is a duel coil when it should be a 12 volt

My 2001 Dodge Statues Coupe RT.has random mis fires. I have replaced bank 1 o2 sensors but it still mis fires as I give it gas to accelerate. Your thoughts? Steve

O2 sensors won't make misfires they only monitor air in the emissions if you have a random misfire it's most likely gonna be your coil pack or a cam pos sensor the cam sensor detects the location of the cam and tell the pcm and it tells the coil to fire your are getting O2 codes cause it detects unburned fuel it the exhaust

Crank shaft sensor sends pulse to ECM telling the computer to fire the coils. Check the sensor.

What are duel points on a 351 ford motor?

Dual points are usually a high performance application, and when they are set right they can provide your engine with a huge timing advance curve, as compared to a stock application. The points open and close sending a dwell signal to the ignition coil telling the coil when to fire the spark plug. They are a lot better performance wise, but they are also trickier to set properly. I can do it because I have set so many of them.

Car was running ruff. missing and had no power. replaced plugs and wires that didnt fix it. then i pulled the wires one at a time from the coil pack and the #4 wasnt firing. so i replaced the coil and it...

with electronics the problem is when you fix one weakness in the curcuit it will go to the next.. the best thing you can do if its the ignition system causeing the problem is replace as much as you can afford, also having a clean fuel and air filter will help it run nicely
