The thermostat can be easily changed from up top, the T-stat is located at the engine end of the upper radiator hose under the flange the hose connects to. Make sure u follow manufacturer's cooling system bleeding procedures when you refill after the T-stat is changed out.

1993 ford taurus overheated and water start coming out of the overflow tank. What could that be from?

if its real hot, it will. After it cools off and you refill the tank and put the cap on, crank it up if it pushes water out right after you start the engine you may have head gasket damage. make sure the coolant level is full and no leaks, make sure radiator fan runs when the a/c is on.

Duaghter's 96 Taurus was overheating, RPM up car slows and stops.

I would check to make sure that the cooling fans are capable of running. The fan's won't come on unless either the a/c is on [provided the a/c works of course] or the engine temperature has reached about 218 degrees. A quick fan test is to allow the car to idle in the driveway with both the a/c and defrost "off" and with transmission in Park. As it warms up the cooling fans should come on once the temp gauge is about 3/4 of the way up [give or take a little] If the fan's won't come on at this point then odds are you've got either a bad fan[s], blown fuse, or bad control relay. As for potential damage caused from the overheating: the most common problem I see is head gasket leaks that allow some of the combustion gasses to get into the cooling system which disrupts the coolant flow and causes it to overheat again from this new problem. A common symptom of a head gasket leak is an engine that will suddenly run hot [but the heater stops blowing hot air when this is happening] then the engine will again run cool nearly as quickly for a while before repeating the cycle. If the leak is big enough it will often force coolant out of the reserve tank when this is happening. If it's been driven for some time and hasn't overheated she may have gotten lucky and avoided any damage. Hope this helps a bit!

1999 Ford Taurus Coolant Light

Jackie, Hi, yes this would be the problem if the temperature sensor is not working it will not tell the fan too start, so best advice would be too change this sensor, or have someone do it for you and that should cure your problem, Colin.

Engine temp drops when the a/c or heat is

The engine temp drops because the fan turns on regardless of heat or a/c. During summer of course with warmer weather it will be at a steady temp unless you the gets overheated by radiator or blown head gasket

You are mis fireing on cyl 1 and 3 if you replaced plugs and wires and coil this is going to be a fuel injector issue or valve issue. See if you can swap the injectors with known good cyl. and see if it changes. Or have a shop do a fuel injector service on it to see if it helps. It may be to late for the fuel injector service.

Sounds like you have some EGR ports clogged up, remove the intake and look at the egr ports all but
#1 cyl port will probably be at least partially clogged, hope this helps
